I've just had a laparoscopy to clean up a burst cyst and check appendix. The pain from wind is immense.

I have had a laparoscopy before and I honestly don't remember the pain from the wind being so bad.
The pain is literally up as far as behind my ear. I can hardly stand up straight. It's nearly as bad as my c section but this wind is much worse.
I've had pepper mint water and pepper mint tea twice. Should I have some more?
I took Windeaze but I haven't passed wind or burped? I am literally creaking when I move as there is so much trapped gas.
I'm taking my pain killers which are:
Codeine Tramadol and paracetamol
I've also taken some laxatives and some lactulose.
Does anyone have any tips on how to deal with the wind pain? Thank you Brew

Hi, had laparoscopy recently and felt exactly the same, hot water bottle on abdomen helped enormously. Also difene added to the meds you are taking gave me great relief.

I am recovering from a gallbladder op, so I do have sympathy. I was told the best thing is to keep moving. Although some swear by peppermint tea, some say it cannot help as it only helps wind in the digestive system and this air cannot get out that way. I felt it in my neck! It probably hung around for 4 days or so. I felt my stomach swelled like a balloon.

@Hubblebubble64 thanks I have a hot water bottle on my shoulder and neck at the moment and have elevated my calfs so my knees sort of bed downward in the bed to help alleviate the pressure on my tummy as it's very tight

@sufferingaggressiveneighbours this is exactly what I queried because I'm pretty sure the air is in the abdominal cavity and not in the gut so I wasn't sure if taking anything would help.

I might try very gently tapping around my ribs to see if I can sort of wind myself like it's done with a baby? If I can get it to slip through to my bowel I'll be a lot happier.

I can't believe how sore it is!! I can't even drive for sure for a few days. What a shock

Have you had peppermint oil in hot water? Worked for me post c-section

Coldhandscoldheart · 01/03/2018 19:21

I was given colpermin capsules after c section which worked well. I think they’re peppermint oil.

sufferingaggressiveneighbours · 01/03/2018 19:27

Yes, to be fair, my digestive system was out of sorts too and I had lots of pain there too. Surgeon claimed that was unusual!

SleepymrsE · 01/03/2018 19:33

To second what suffering said about keeping moving. I had my appendix out at Christmas & less than 24 hours later the nurse had me up & out of bed to shower & move around. That is the only way to shift the gas. Whilst it was tempting to just stay in the one position it didn’t hurt & not move I do think keeping moving definitely helped. By day 4 the gas pains had pretty much gone but horrendous on days 1 & 2 post op. Hope yours ease soon & recovery goes well.

Yes to keep moving. I was in agony with wind after an ileostomy reversal a few years ago but my mum encouraged me to get out and walk. A walk we often do around the local woodland park usually takes about 20mins - we did half of it when I was ill and it took an hour. But by god the relief when I got home. Really helped.

Tanfastic · 01/03/2018 23:33

Just want to say I sympathise. Never underestimate the pain from
Trapped wind. It’s one of the worst pains I’ve had after my c section. Ended up getting given liquid morphine from the doctor.

Mine subsided after a couple of days but only after lots of breaking wind and moving about as much as poss. Just had to be done Blush

dissapointedafternoon · 02/03/2018 12:33

Tempting to get on all fours and pray for a bit of popping off. I'm moving about and have done a few burps but even it hurts to do that. I've not gone to the loo for 2 days if I don't go today. I went before surgery then not yesterday and not today. I took a few laxatives but haven't taken a lot because the cramps are horrible from them and to be honest I've eaten almost nothing. Do you think I should leave it another day before taking more? I had impaction before and I am terrified of it happening again but always end up on the loo squirming holding stomach and dashing to the toilet in desperation not to have an accident. The muscles are really really sore and I don't know about if I'll cope with extra cramps.the burps are coming out a bit more but I feel like throwing up every time I walk :(
This is honestly making me question having another baby. We are so traumatised by my first pregnancy but I was adamant I would do it again. The c section was really sore but I managed to cope. The pain from this is honestly making me doubt doing it again.
Im probably just tired and fed up

I found the pain from laproscopy to be far worse than after my C-section. It's the trapped air in the abdominal cavity that gives you the shoulder pain. Keeping taking the painkillers and try and move around.

It hurts like buggery but movement helped. It took about four days for the nerve pain to subside.

dissapointedafternoon · 03/03/2018 12:14

Hey ladies,

The pain is dampening down a little today.

I'm positive that my c section was less painful then this, honestly.

I am so lonely. My husband is working today and our son is with the in laws, like he has been all week.
I haven't had any visits from my sister or parents and I am resentful of it to them.

If you're not pooing or passing wind, get some glycerin suppositories, to stick up your bum!
These will encourage peristalsis, which will move the gas along.

seven201 · 03/03/2018 18:18

I had a pyleplasty and didn't poo until day 10 (after a range of different suppositories and laxatives) which resulted in on and off diarrhoea for a few days! I was still in hospital and all I felt I ever talked about was wind, poo and pain. Nothing else existed in my mind! You have my sympathy.

dissapointedafternoon · 05/03/2018 15:55

I went to the toilet after I wrote this. Im obsessed with staying on top of bowels after getting impacted when pregnant.
I am feeling so ill still. Waiting to hear blood results as I'm still vomiting 6 days later

Can anyone help? I have had dull cramps for the last 24 hours.
I was extremely nauseas for at least 5 days after my surgery.
Now I have just been to the toilet and for the second time of the day, what felt like loose bowels was actually mucus, and it smells really bad.
Shall I phone my doctor

It’s possibly a result of the remedies you’ve been taking to counteract the wind and prevent constipation, but I’d give your gp a call anyway especially as you’re post op.
