Lump in Breast - come back in 3 weeks!

My DDiL found a small lump in her breast and saw GP yesterday. Told to come back after her next period. She, as well as me, was concerned because her Mum has had breast cancer.

I encouraged her to go back today and she saw a different GP who looked at her notes and, basically has told her not to fuss, didn't even examine her! Is this really right?

How old is she? If she’s under 30 then maybe the guidelines are to wait for one cycle to see if it goes away on its own That’s only a guess. And the second gp has no excuse for being so dismissive Shock

Thank you for the reply Alisha, she's mid 30s. I was so cross on her behalf

It's quite common for gps to wait for one cycle to see if lump disappears but if it's still there after that it's important that she sticks to her guns for referral to breast clinic.

Tell her to go back again and insist on referral or explain why not specifically. Take copy of recommendation by NICE. Over 30she should be referred under 2ww.

A quick update - my DDIL has visited another GP and they have referred her to the local hospital with a waiting time of 2 weeks. Relief all round.

Thank you again for your input, it was very much appreciated
