Gifts for someone having chemo

Can anyone suggest a helpful gift I can get someone having chemo?

I've so far got books, movies, photos and an eye mask, but it would be really good to know what would improve someone's comfort in this awful situation

Thanks

Male or female? Your teeth get wobbly which is a pain in the rear end, and you can feel pretty nauseous too. Are they in hospital much?

Not really any one thing that will suit all cancer patients. So much will depend on the age and life and personality of the patient...
Maybe a nice water bottle with a filter maybe, or some Vaseline for lips would also suit both sexes. A voucher for something like amazon prime or Netflix to be able to watch stuff on a mobile device could be good?
Or some help with providing meals at home on days after chemo or dog walking/ cleaning services etc.

I really appreciated people who treated me like normal too- not cancer me.

Wishing them well.

My mum liked really soft scarves and blankets, she got cold easily.

IHeartKingThistle · 23/02/2018 20:34

My friend really appreciated soft things. So blanket, hat, super soft pj's...

stressedoutfred · 23/02/2018 20:34

Soft blanket
Pillow
Lip balm
Non scented hand cream
Audio books
Colouring stuff
Bed socks

nicknamehelp · 23/02/2018 20:35

If in hospital nice pjs, cosy socks, voucher for audio books, lip balm, hand cream, puzzle books.

stressedoutfred · 23/02/2018 20:35

I'd avoid anything scented, my DS couldn't cope with anything smelly!

HeyMicky · 23/02/2018 20:36

My dad's partner found her sense of taste was very muted, so sharp flavoured sweets, chillis etc were welcomed

Pooshweens · 23/02/2018 20:37

I really appreciate all your replies! Some good ideas here

That's a good point HeyMicky, my DS had either that or had a weird taste in his mouth.

starsinyourpies · 23/02/2018 20:49

If they are losing their hair then a really soft beanie hat (expensive but my DSIS loved her cashmere one) can be cosy and good for sleeping especially.

I once nursed a lady who said ginger ale was helpful to take when nauseous from chemo, perhaps a can or two of that to try?

We made this box up for one of our friends, hopefully you can zoom in!

Seconding the notanothebunchofflowers website - gifts especially for people going through chemo, and some great cards. Food is difficult, because taste can change so much, but also your mouth can become very sore and sensitive. I'm speaking from experience - I suddenly hated some of my favourite foods, but other things I liked the taste of, like fruit juices, just hurt my mouth. Netflix or amazon prime subscription would be awesome, as would soft hats and shawls/blankets.

Ice cold beer. Wine tastes disgusting but a deeply chilled beer is heavenly.
