Cystoscopy - Anyone know about them? Epidural issues.

Having a cystoscopy tomorrow been told under a local anaesthetic. Just seen online local anaesthetic is an epidural - had one with my daughter and kept losing consciousness and so they had to call emergency doctors out. I was fine after a few hours but it was really scary but did come after 3 days in labour / sleepness nights which may not have helped.

Does anyone know will the local be an epidural? Would it be wise to have one again or is the same likely to happen? Will the alternative be a general? Am I best not to eat or drink in the morning in case I go to a general, how bad is drinking tea etc?

I had a cystoscopy last year. Was told local anaesthetic by way of numbing gel however I asked afterwards if they used any because I did feel the tube go in, just a stinging sensation for a few seconds until the instrument is in your bladder. I was led to believe the "numbing gel" is just lubricant so I didn't really have one.

I'm surprised they would give an epidural for this. Seems a bit drastic. I found it no more unpleasant or uncomfortable than a smear and believe me I'm a complete wuss!

Thanks very much - I found another site where it says its either local which is just the gel so mine presumably is that but sometimes they have general or epidurals. It maybe when they find / expect a tumour so need a biopsy rather than a quick look. So looks OK from the anaesthetics as long as they don't find anything but would imagine they will call me back for that.

I had one recently, but it was under a general, so no help.
Didn’t know they did them under local?

Suppose it depends what they expect to find

Thanks very much. It probably does as my hysterscopy will be under general as they have asked for a biopsy / resection but I have heard of others under local.

I had one a few weeks ago with just the numbing gel. I didn't feel a thing. However, I had one a couple of years ago with an epidural. The pain I felt afterwards was awful and it took me about a week to fully recover from it.

Thanks very much. It was just with the gel though also an antibiotics injection in the bum with an old male doctor watching Blush.
