I'm over weight. Had lots of dental work done last week and my mouth has been sore, but the past couple of days its been feeling a lot better.

I seem to do anything rather the eat and even when i do sit down to eat, I put food in my mouth and dont want to chew it, I just want to spit it out.

Normally I would get up, have breakfast once ds1 is at school, have lunch with ds2 and then we will sit down in the evening and eat together. Now all i do is drink. Have 12 a sandwich for lunch yesterday and 1/2 slice of taost last night for dinner. Thought maybe its cos (mentall) i still think my mouth is sore so I bought some soft fruits today, chopped then up put them in my mouth and its almost like my brain doesnt know what to do with the food in my mouth.

Should i be worried??

I think you are still reacting to the months of pain you've been in wurly. Could you tolerate soup/scrambled egg and slowly build up to "proper" food?

jalopy · 03/05/2007 19:14

It's a loss of confidence. As MamaG says, once you increase your range of foods, it will become less of an issue.

CuriousSquid · 03/05/2007 19:15

wurly, have u posted this same thing recently? I am having deja vu

Hillls · 03/05/2007 19:17

wurlywurly, having dental work can really knock your confidence in eating as you are scared of your 'new' mouth, how are you feeling in general? If you eat something do you resent eating it after?

Hillls · 03/05/2007 19:18

Are you deliberatley restricting what you eat, knowing deep down its not because of your teeth?

colditz · 03/05/2007 19:19

Just keep going and treat your mouth like a new baby's mouth, and 'wean' it!

DaphneHarvey · 03/05/2007 19:27

ww - I understand what you are saying. I went through a brief and very weird phase in my life when I couldn't think of anything at all I fancied eating. Its scary how quickly it creeps up on you. I wasn't deliberately trying to lose weight, but it just fell off me. My flat mates were worried that I was becoming anorexic.

So I started eating again by thinking of foods I really truly loved, and giving myself those as a treat. IIRC this included strawberries, ice cream, roast lamb and roast potatoes, asparagus, pasta with butter and parmesan.

Try and eat your absolute favourites. The things you really can't resist. Worry about nutrition later.

HTH.

Hey Wurly, Ooh so you summoned the courage - WELL DONE!! I hope it wasn't too bad. Sounds like the aftermath is worse than expected though.
I think it's quite likely that it's freaked you out a bit, you've had to get used to not eating for a few days, and now you're able to again, your mind is having to resurrect its old habits and this takes a bit of time, like a prisoner who's suddely released and can do what they want - hiding in their room for ages.
It must feel scary but don't worry too much - I think hunger is one of the most powerful things we have, and I'd be surprised if it didn't come back into play soon - it's early days honey.
Keep posting though, I did have anxiety-induced anorexia and that came on pretty fast, so not meaning to alarm you at all but I want to keep an eye on you!!

wurlywurly · 03/05/2007 19:49

i'm just fed up with food i think. I do tend to think while i'm preparing food, "i wonder how much it will hurt trying to eat this" and am now just getting to the stage where i just dont bother. Am fed up of soft foods, have spent so long living on baby foods. I have a mouth full of ulcers, was just hoping by now I would be able to eat something properly but i seem to be getting worse rather then better.

WW do you get problems with your gut? Bad cramps in tummy? It sounds like you have more an issue with your mouth than the food that goes in it, just take it little by little keep eating little and often to get your appatite going, piriton can make you hungry too.

flightattendant · 03/05/2007 19:53

Has the dentist given you any advice on how to speed up the recovery? Might be worth ringing them and asking for help. There are various mouthwashes etc, that can help a lot, it sounds horrible, I'm not surprised that you're finding yourself a bit despondent about eating.
I know I've felt similar after just one big thing like an extraction, so having a few things done at once must have been much more difficult. I think people underestimate how much mouth surgery affects you, it's so intrusive and food is so crucial to feeling 'OK' that to go without anything proper for a few days can feel like torture.
Poor you

hills have suffered ibs since i was about 12 and find it get worse when i am stressed. I keep trying to temp my self with "nice" foods, but it either hurts to eat it or i just get fed up eating.

Ah thought so, with the mouth ulcers, usually linked, yes when it hurts it can be hard to like eating, no matter what anyone says. I feel for you honey, just try your best, I dont think you have an eating disorder but you could develop one by becoming depressed and restricting your diet, its is so so easy. Just make sure you have a good supplement, you know your body better than anyone so just go with it but if you start intentionally restricting to feel in control seek help immediatley

Hillls · 03/05/2007 20:03

How about going for a massage or spending a weekend at a spa to take the edge off your stress? or a weekend away without the children, every little helps

NutterlyUts · 03/05/2007 20:05

Pineapple juice is a good juice for sore mouths. The enzymes in it are similar to saliva and it can help to heal mouth ulcers.

(Just to add, you can't drink it if on colesteral tablets, not that I think you are)

wurlywurly · 03/05/2007 20:56

have been drinking lots of pomegrante(sp?) juice
