How to get over the flu quickly

user1475317873 · 21/02/2018 19:04

DH has what I believe is the flu: sore throat, dry cough, temperature, congestion, block nose, headache, shivers, phlegm . Have been to the Dr but he has not said much really. I guess it just take time but wondering if there are any home remedies, or other advice that could ease the symptoms. He has been herbals teas, honey and manuka honey tea in addition to ibuprofen, day and night tablets, Sambucol every now and again and have now bought Echinacea tablets. Not sure if any of these is really working, it seems quite a nasty bug.

I have no real advice but I’m currently suffering through the same cold. I’m on the day and night nurse liquids and I’m feeling rough as anything. Feel better soon xx

Thank you. Hope you get better soon.

I guess I will just keep giving him all my home remedies and TLC. Hopefully we will get some sleep tonight.

Not home made but Sudofed nose spray and Vicks vaporub are both good. Also a hot toddy (below), and I'd go for Night Nurse. Getting a good night's sleep will really help

Sleep as much as possible and lots of water. It's the only thing that helps really. Everything else just soothes the symptoms.

Oh and gargling warm salt water really helps the sore throat - do it a few times every 3 or 4 hours.

1000mg of vitamin C daily

Hot lemon, honey with ginger and teaspoon of turmeric! Tastes grim but the antibacterial properties of turmeric really help....

I only wish I knew... Week 5 here, although it kind of whipped it's mask off on Friday and found a whole new gear. Hospital grade antibiotics, paracetamol every 4 hours and an inhaler are the only things that have helped make even small steps back to wellness. I am amazed at how much better I feel after using the inhaler - it gives real relief.
