Currently having a horrendous bout of eczema - which appears to have spread to my scalp! If I run my hands through my hair a shower of little flakes comes off Sad GP gave me some stuff that didn't help much, and I've tried head+shoulders... Anyone got any tips? It's making me miserable Sad

Hello. Try alphosyl (sp) shampoo. It's great. Cleared mine when it was bad on scalp. May take a few washes. Good luck!

Eczema is non-specific dermatitis. I would avoid harsh shampoos.
Could you treat it as cradle cap? That would be by applying oil (almond, olive or coconut). Is your diet healthy? I would up the B vitamins.
I'm not a medical practitioner but have had bad eczema.
Avoid most toiletries and lotions esp. ones with detergents or petroleum derivatives in. Savlon helped mine and was just about the only thing I could put on my skin.
Hope it gets better soon.

Is it a tar based produce the GP has given you, they've helped with my ds previously? Perhaps speak to the Pharmacist for advice as there are a couple of products, but never had H&S recommended as seems to be fairly harsh on the scalp despite the marketing etc.

Try using pure soap instead of handwashes and showergel.
I know I sound a bit MNty but handwash makes my hands sore.

Hello SneakyGremlins, I was prescribed betnovate scalp application. It's flammable so you can't use a hairdryer or straighteners after using it, but it made a huge difference very quickly and after a few days i only needed to use it at night. I also have eczema on my face and it helped to put thick moisturiser on my face right into my hair line before having a shower as I realized even just water made it worse. I also put thick moisturiser on my face before bed every night. I have found that if I let my face get bad it quickly spreads to my scalp. I use cream by Simple or an aqueous cream or similar. It doesn't seem to matter which as long as I'm not actually allergic to it. Strangely creams sometimes sting when I put them on, which had put me off using them, but I was advised to persevere, as long as the stinging doesn't last too long, and it seems to work. I was also advised to use sunscreen every day.

I had this when expecting my dd- even in my eyebrows. I used this allergenics shampoo: it really helped.
