crippling agonising stomach pain IBD?

ok so I had a bad food day today but it wasn;t that unusual for me . I certainly didn;t expect to be paid back like this. I had croissant and coffee for breakfast at about 9.30. Then I had the day from hell in the office which meant I grabbed a clementine and a plum I happened to have on my desk at lunchtime. at 5.00 I got a cheese sandwich and a custard tart. I was then in AGONY for about an hour and a half. I sat on the loo on the train home because I was convinced I was going to throw up (and wasn;t entirely sure I was going to hold everying in down below either. as it were ) I was hot and cold (but not clammy). I was pale and, to be frank, looked like complete and utter shite. I got a taxi from the station and collapsed in a heap on the sitting room floor. after about 15 minutes of being horizontal I was ok. but the trip home was horrendous. and I never want to have to do that again. this isn;t a normal reaction to a not ideal diet right?

Just wondering why you thought IBD. Is this a one off experience or do you get this often?

frenchleave · 02/05/2007 21:22

What you ate doesn't sound that bad to me. I take it you have IBD?

foxinsocks · 02/05/2007 21:24

could it be a bug? a lot about atm

poor you, that is rubbish (and how come your trains have toilets?! - had been campaigning SWT to put loos on our suburban line, thought you were on the same stretch as me!).

hatwoman · 02/05/2007 22:03

I've wondered for a while if I might have IBD - seem to get stomach ache too much. but today was in another league. I don;t think it was a bug - it just felt different. if I get a bug I feel sick and throw up - I don;t get pain like this

have you ever had trouble with your gallbladder? sounds v similar to nanny who has gallstones on our road - she has to avoid all fatty food because they really really hurt her.

I would def go to the GP hat.

Jomist · 02/05/2007 22:09

As foxinsocks says - go to your gp and I would keep a food and symptoms diary to show when you go.

hatwoman · 02/05/2007 22:11

hmm. yes. I went a few months ago, and thta's what she told me to do. i did it for a while and then got bored and didn;t seem to have stomach ache that bad so let it slide. I really ought to do it.

I would suggest that you go back to the doctor. If this is happening on a regular basis, then something is clearly not right. Don't let her fob you off with IBS, thats a term for I'm not sure what it is, so we'll call it IBS. You know its irritable, but why? Maybe ask her if you can see a dietician or send you for tests. Its probably something quite simple, but its still not normal to suffer like that, so why should you. Good luck.

lucyellensmum · 02/05/2007 22:31

defintately sounds like gall bladder pain to me, and the fact that you felt hot and cold and sick suggests it might be inflammed too at the moment, i suggest a trip to the doctors. Gallstones are easily fixed i used to be exactly the same after eating what i deemed to be inconspicuous foods.

tortoise · 02/05/2007 22:35

My 1st thought was gall stones. I have just had a scan for them and have to see the dr on the 10th to find out what happens next.
Its really awful pain across stomach and also back and shoulders. My last attack lasted an hour and made me feel really sick.
I am trying to avoid fatty foods now to reduce the risk of an attack.

hatwoman · 02/05/2007 22:42

I never thought of gall bladder. would this have been picked up by a blood test? I had one a few months ago, mainly to rule out celiacs (db has it, so gp thought it a bitmore likely than normal)

I had to have a scan for gall stones. Doubt blood test would show that.

lucyellensmum · 03/05/2007 13:57

hatwoman, if you had a specific test then no this would not have shown on that test, although it is likely that they would have done a full blood profile and tested your liver function. Very often with gall stones one or two of the liver enzymes are raised on blood tests however this is not always the case, especially if you are not having a bout of flair ups. The last poster was right you would have to have an ultrasound to confirm gall stones. The pain you get from gall stones is USUALLY severe and under the right ribs, although this can go through the whole abdomen and to the back however my doctor told me that they can give unexpected symptoms also, just to confuse you. You can often feel nauseous with gall stones to and the symptoms are made worse by fatty foods, and often occur at night. gaviscon and other antacids dont seem to work, hope this helps.

hatwoman · 03/05/2007 20:23

thanks lucyellensmum, and everyone else. iirc the blood test was for several things - and I;m fairly sure liver function was included. I'm coming to the conclusion that it is fat that triggers me feeling dodgy. although it's very hard to tell as I haven't done any sort of elimination thing. anyway, you're all right, I do need to go back to the docs - that journey home on the train was a real journey from hell. although I can smile a wee bit about it now. my fellow commuters wondering what on earth I was doing in the loo for 15 minutes!!
