Conjunctivitis

I was wondering if anyone has any advice. My daughter started with conjunctivitis on Saturday morning but because she's under two they can't treat her so it's just keeping her eye bathed until it clears.

Problem is, I have my hen do on Saturday so I'm really worried I'm going to get it. Does anyone know how long it lasts and if I did catch it, how long would it take for the symptoms to show?

Thanks!

My 10 week old has conjunctivitis and was treated with fucithalmic drops first and then chloramphenicol. Not UK based though. Prescription only here. Not sure if you could get anything over the counter.

My DS had conjunctivitis at a few months and the GP gave me AB cream to treat him. She gave me a script too as she was sure I would get it too. - I did. It was 16 years ago though. Have you been to the doctor - the pharmacy won't give anything for a little one.

My dd had this two weeks ago aged 23months. The Chemist told me he wasn't able to sell me drops over the counter as she was under 2 but to get a prescription. The GP did me a prescription after a chat on the phone because the chemist had diagnosed conjunctivitis. Having got the prescription she was given the exact same drops as I then brought a week later when she passed it onto me.

I'd speak to a GP and ask if they can give you a prescription.

Thanks for your replies.

I've called the doctors this morning and they're going to call me back so hopefully will give her something. Breaks my heart seeing her poorly, she's had a different illness every single week since Christmas.

I've been and got some antibiotic drops from pharmacy for myself so hopefully I don't get it, not sure how they work and whether they will prevent it or just treat if I get it.

Noname they will only treat. Just make sure you are washing your hands lots. It's very hard not to get it though with a cuddly toddler.

How old is your dd? If my dd gets it again before her bday (next month) I would just treat her with the over the counter ones as it the same thing. This is knowing that the GP was happy to prescribe them for my child though.

She's only 9 1/2 months so a bit young. Let's hope the docs will see her and help. She's rubbing her eyes all the time bless her and you can't do anything to stop it. Just want to smother her in kisses but that won't be helping anyone.

Ahhh I was hoping it would prevent too or stop it in its tracks early. Meant to be having my eyelashes extended Thursday and my makeup professionally done so that's not looking likely haha.

I'm sure you do but separate towels for everyone.

Thanks! Yeh we have been. I'm being extra vigilant. Washing hands after every time I touch anything at all just in case.

Do any of you know how long it lasts?
