Hard pea sized lump next to ear- leave it or worth a GP visit?

I’ve found a small pea sized lump next to my ear. It’s at the front, kind of next to the ear opening. The lump is painless (part from when I keep poking it!) but is hard and doesn’t move.

How long do I leave it to see if it goes naturally or is it worth a GP visit?

I have one aswell it's like a small pea I've been waiting to see if it disappears

GrockleBocs · 18/02/2018 17:13

I had that a few weeks ago. I eventually made myself stop poking it and it went away.

Have you got eczema? Sometimes you can get get a 'post auricular node', due to some inflammation slightly higher up.
See how it goes. If it persists. see your GP,but this is common and not nec sinister,

No eczema and I’ve no idea how long it’s been there as I discovered it about a week ago. I’d been hit (accidentally by Child 2) in my jaw and was rubbing both sides of my jaw/face to see if it was swollen and realised it was there. (Different side to where I got knocked and was there as a hard pea immediately so not related to the toddler bashing)
The ‘pea’ is under the skin and can’t be seen but can clearly be felt, I just presumed it would disappear but I think because I keep poking it Blush and I know it’s there now I’m much more aware (and have a vivid imagination of worst case scenarios!)

I’ll leave it a while longer to see if it disappears and step away from Dr Google!

I have one.. well I have a few little hard lumps around the place! Some have been scanned and sometimes I just follow a watch and wait to see if they get bigger... in my case they never do. Perhaps see your GP and they will refer you if concerned?

spugzbunny · 18/02/2018 18:27

I get a lot of cyst type spots around that area. The usually start as pee like lumps and eventually I'll play with it till it pops. Mmmm yum

spugzbunny · 18/02/2018 18:29

Pea not pee! BlushConfused

feedmewinenow · 18/02/2018 19:48

Ooh it’s wrong but the thought of it developing into something I can pop is a positive Blush I’ll keep giving it a gentle prod and keep an eye out for any changes!

It might be a ganglion. They sometimes go away by themselves or can be removed by surgery but they probably wouldn't do that for a small one.

tryingtobethebestican · 19/02/2018 07:01

I had this and the doctor said it was something to do with having my ears pierced Hmm

EdithWeston · 19/02/2018 07:16

My rule of thumb is that if something is 'wrong' but not overly troubling, then wait three weeks from when you've noticed it's been around for a while. Then get a routine appointment if you're still worried (and always do so if it's a cough or if it's poo issues)

AnotherDunroamin · 19/02/2018 07:18

Have you had a cold recently OP? You've got lymph nodes just in front of your ears - mine get swollen sometimes if I've been ill.

dosie · 02/04/2018 20:03

Go visit the doctor just to make sure

Hey! Sorry I’m late on this thread I’ve found the same thing just in front of my ear like right between my tragus and the top of my ear. Can I just ask if you ever went to get it checked out or did you find out what it was? I’ve been driving myself crazy and I suffer really bad with health anxiety but I’m also terrified of the doctors Blush thanks!

Tcl77 · 09/10/2019 19:59

I have just found one by my left ear did any one find out what it is?

MGibson3 · 16/11/2020 21:45

Hi, did anyone ever get this checked out?

Nets888 · 18/11/2020 14:31

If the lump is next to the ear lobe, moveable, painless and has been there for a long time, it could be a parotid gland tumour. It's benign but best to get it remove.
