she is going o na school trip. to a bird of prey centre. going to be outside. she generall reacts to suncreams, and her skin atm is very sore so really dont want to put anything extra on top of her eczema ointments.

If i make her take a wide brimmed sun hat or legionarres type cap, light cotton long sleeved top and cropped trousers, would she be at risk of burning?

she reacts to those.

i think we have tried every cream on the market. she is 7. because her skin is open and sore in places, if we put anything other than thick greaey ointments on her she comes out in a rash.

If the hat is wide brimmed enough that her face and the back of her neck are in shadow, plus long sleeves (and I'd go for full length rather than cropped trousers) she should be fine. Can she be relied on to keep her hat on (and can you ask the teacher to see that she does?)

misdee · 01/05/2007 22:21

once those sore patches heal over, we can go back to the sun cream moose thing ithink.

its terrible, but i dont generally put suncream on her as she reacts so badly.

my dd1 is having this probem at the moment too. I just don't know which suncream is the best one to use. Covering up seems far better IMO.

misdee · 01/05/2007 22:22

i think all her long length trousers are too wintery, but will double check.

i mean copped for dd1 means ankle showing, very long still, and she will no doubt put long socks on lol.

you can burn through anything that is a loose weave. the only thing that would be as good as a suncream are those sun protection suits, or a top that if you hold it up to the light you can't really see through.

donnie · 01/05/2007 22:24

which suncream have you found the best misdee?

Lullabyloo · 01/05/2007 22:24

Misdee..have you tried the Dr Haushka one?
I know not great to put anything on broken skin...but ds reacted to every single brand but this.

misdee · 01/05/2007 22:25

i'm searching google and i think i go through this each year.

proderm was fine in 2005, she reacted badly last summer to it.

as long as the t shirt is cotton, do you think she'll be ok and not get too hot?

OP posts:
misdee · 01/05/2007 22:31

oh there is no way she will wear a sun suit, says its beach wear only

lucy5 · 01/05/2007 22:32

Can you get idsn in England?

marthamoo · 01/05/2007 22:32

I think she'll be fine - I don't think sleeves make that much of a difference, tbh, so long as it's fairly loose fitting.

lucy5 · 01/05/2007 22:33

It's for very sensitive skins.

misdee · 01/05/2007 22:33

lucy, what is it?

OP posts:
TooTicky · 01/05/2007 22:35

Green People do a couple of excellent creams for children, but if I were you I would go for the long-sleeved top and hat.

lucy5 · 01/05/2007 22:36

its a suncream particularly for sensitive skin, you can get really high factors to total block. No good for thursday but I could send you some over.

PrincessPeaHead · 01/05/2007 22:39

misdee we get our suncreams from the states because every cream in the UK is awful for ezcema. and we just get bog standard coppertone for babies and children - I just think they use different active ingredients there which are much better

the one cream that I've found IS ok is the RoC sensitive skin one - from most Boots. Ok it is expensive, but if you buy a small tube and test it on her and then just use it on her face, maybe that would work. worth a go perhaps?

otherwise just make it the schools responsibility to steer her into shade and wear what you suggest.

misdee · 01/05/2007 22:40

thank PPh, will get some RoC tomorrow, but wont use it on her for thursday as her face is also sore as well.

OP posts:
PrincessPeaHead · 01/05/2007 22:43

yes I wouldn't if I were you, poor thing

well we live in england not the sahara, I'm sure she will be fine in what you suggest, esp the proper hat. surely there will be trees etc around, just make sure the teachers don't leave her out in full sun for hours...

KathG · 01/05/2007 22:45

have a look at some of the sun jacket type things from "lion in the sun" - we have the pink patterned ones and they do actually look nice! We have found the ambre solere for sensitive skin works when excema friendly ones have had her screaming!
