Have just noticed dd has some small rash type spots on her stomach and back. I was just wondering what the key signs of chicken pox were and what the initial spots were like?

Another option, given the weather, would be heat rash - ds got it loads when he was little - small, red dots - I hassled innumerable long-suffering-medical-types

She has had a runny nose but nothing serious, so maybe I am being over anxious. Will soon find out I suppose!!!

Oh..and this may be a silly question, but should you take babies with c pox out ie: to shops etc???

if it's chicken pox then no don't go out. it's highly contagious!

mummynumnum · 02/05/2007 18:52

Even after the rash has come out?

OP posts:
foxybrown · 02/05/2007 18:53

is it around her nappy area? could her nappy be rubbing her tummy? Or if she's in plastic pants could it be thrush or some sweaty rash from the heat?

ruddynorah · 02/05/2007 18:54

yes. until they're all scabbed over. dd has it at the moment. nhs direct and our gp said you're ok 5 days after the first one scabs over. but to be safe i'm waiting til they're all scabbed. they nearly all are now, it's day 4 of spots. nursery will take her back when all spots are scabbed.

foxybrown · 02/05/2007 18:54

re, chicken pox - they're not contageous once the last spot has scabbed over apparently. I'd take her out, but keep her in her buggy and away from other children if poss.

foxybrown · 02/05/2007 18:57

and pregnant women.

sorry, what I mean is I'd take mine out but only for a walk and keep her away from everyone.

ruddynorah · 02/05/2007 18:59

yes. you must be careful please. it's very dangerous for elderly people as well as anyone with a low immune system such as those under going cancer treatment.

mummynumnum · 02/05/2007 19:01

Her bumb is probably the worst part and she does have disposable nappies.

Could it be thrush or heat rash then? Are you able to keep her nappy off for any length of time and see if it helps?

of course it could be chicken pox. I took mine to the doctor who prescribed a mild antihistamine which really helped taked the pain and uncomfortableness away.

mummynumnum · 02/05/2007 19:31

Possibly I may take her back to the docs.

Have got up this morning and rash has all but gone. Is this typical of chicken pox? Does it come and go or sometimes not break into blisters>

OP posts:
ruddynorah · 03/05/2007 11:46

doesn't sound like it was chickenpox then. it would be spots which then burst into little blisters which then turn into scabs. they don't just go away.

mummynumnum · 03/05/2007 12:53

Hmm!! They seem to have reappeared a little. V confused. they certainly dont seem to be about to erupt but who knows. She has had two sleeps today which is quite unusual.Who knows? They are can sometimes be a mystery, cant they??
