My ds had headlice a few weeks ago. We used the tea tree leave in conditioner from Boots and had to comb his hair through every other night for a bout two weeks before he was clear. I had them too (ugh ugh ugh!) Now he has them again and it's even worse than last time. Did I not get rid of them properly? Is there anything I can buy that is more effective that's not chemical based? I don't think I can bear another two weeks of endless combing.....

And what's the best preventative measure? Do people comb their kids through weekly to keep an eye on any lurking creatures within?

Thanks in advance!

I don't know if it works (not caught them yet) but we use a preventitive spray from asda. It has teatree and lavender extracts. Costs £2.99 for a small bottle. You just spray it into hair every morning.

Not had them (yet, that's tempting fate isn't it) but in advance I've got an electronic comb - this - that's supposed to zap them, bit like a porch bug-killer. Don't know how good a job it does, but it looks, well, satisfying.

If you managed to get rid of them the first time - and DS has them again - it's likely he is being re-infested from elsewhere. Is he at playgroup / childminders / mums and toddlers ..... perhaps the problem is not with you - but with the friends he mixes with
( how many more times will we hear that phrase in the future )

I have let nursery know again this morning - I don't think they were very rigorous in letting the other parents know that there was a problem! I'm sure he's getting them there - all my other friends with kids have checked their kids hair.

Dino - where did the bug buster comb come from? the comb I got from Boots is useless - I can see baby ones in his hair but it doesn't pick them up.

I bought a comb from www.nittygritty.co.uk and it is brilliant about 10 pounds but worth every penny I had tried everything else!

You do have to do it all the time to keep them at bay because there is always one with them at school
