Unluckiness or should I push doc?

I’ve basically been ill more or less constantly for the last 4 months. Temp 38-39+ every day except for a break of a week just before Christmas and 3 days over the weekend.

Last week and the week before I was totally knocked out and fluey- aches all over, couldn’t stop shivering, sore throat and exhausted. Basically couldn’t get out of bed for 5 days and the rest of the time couldn’t do much because of exhaustion and everything sent me into an exhausted sweat. But then I felt better and the temp and sore throat went.

Now I’m exhausted again and the temp is back. Fairly sure there’s nothing bacterial wrong with me so haven’t been to doc except once because antibiotics wouldn’t help. So have a just had a long string of different viruses or should I get checked out? I don’t want to waste NHS time and I’m fairly sure there’s nothing wrong except viruses but I’m SO fed up of feeling crappy. But I don’t feel horribly horribly ill most of the time, just run down and shivery because of the temp, and tired and generally ill but nothing that actually stops me getting through the day.

Sometimes I wake up with a temp of 37.5 and then when I get home from work it’s 39. Regularly! It’s just weird. Would it be wasting NHS resources if I went to doc despite thinking it’s all probably just bad luck?

I think this is definitely worth a trip to the GP, you've given it a long time and you're not getting better. It needs to be checked out.

Any sign of UTI?

FluffyAnimalsRule · 06/02/2018 21:17

No sign of UTI. Used to get a lot of strep throats but it’s not that because throat isn’t sore enough. Neither paracetamol nor ibuprofen are helping the temp. No cough. No headache.

So, no obvious underlying cause (other than the flu-like thing that has since resolved), and it's been a persistent temp for around 4 months?

It could be a string of viruses, but there could be something else going on. GP appt for you.

Have you had any bloods done?

QueenNefertitty · 06/02/2018 21:24

DS was like this from Sept - December (he's a toddler)

He had 4 bouts of tonsillitis, several colds, two stomach bugs, hand foot and mouth, croup and bronchiolitis literally without a break

It was hell, absolute hell. He was hospitalised 4 times with uncontrollable fevers, and once with suspected meningitis.

I was at the GPs at least once a week with him, and in the end paid to see a private paediatrician. End result....

Unlucky.

It can happen- but do get it checked out.

No bloods. The one time I went to the doc they said sounds viral but you’ve had a temp for a long time so here are some antibiotics - if they don’t help it’s viral and there’s nothing we can do

QueenN - that sounds hideous. Hope he’s ok now

Commiserations.

Flu tends to knock you out...then you convince yourself you will are fine after 5 or 6 days...realise it is a big mistake...then you struggle to get fit a week later.

It sounds as if you have a digital thermometer to hand. Keep a regular record for a day or 2 if you need to wait for a doctors' appointment. Also write down other symptoms.

It sounds more like mild flu than thyroid/menopause but do seek proper help if you are worried (maybe start at a chemist).
