I wear soft lenses and about 2 weeks ago, had a couple of bad days wih them. Since then I have not worn them but eyes been red raw, reallly 'tired' achey and itchy and 'strained' feeling. Doc last week said conjunctivitus and prescribed anit-botic drops. they are no better and my eyes are so sensitive I cannot venture outside in this sun without dark glasses on (over y specs otherwise I cannot see). I have made appointment with optician but can't see him before thursday.

I can barely esee to tye, can'r read, watch tv or anything. Am So fed up and miserale.

Anyone ever had anything similar?

My lenses feel quite dry, scratchy and generally sticking to my eyes at the mo! Are you sure it's not hayfever? I have taken a Benedryl and feel much better.

filthymindedvixen · 30/04/2007 19:43

I have no other sypmtoms...could it be hayfever? What a pisser. I've never felt so wretched.
Will come back to this tomorow as I can't rad any more tonight.

Are they sensitive to the light itself or more to the changes in light ie, is the pain more intense when you move from areas of dark to light or vice versa?

powder28 · 30/04/2007 19:47

yes, it could be hayfever. I have asthma anyway so im unsure of whther it is hayfever, but have taken a tablet and my eyes feel a bit better. I am literally peeling my lenses off my eyes at the mo. Think it is the weather.

SaintGeorge · 30/04/2007 19:47

Oh and are they at all bloodshot?

filthymindedvixen · 30/04/2007 19:49

oh no. I love the summer. it's my birthday soon. This is a sack of shit

St G, difficult to tell, think it's the brightness.

How do you clean your lenses? Soft lenses aren't great for your eyes as they don't let much oxygen in and can get mucky easily. I had loads of probs with mine and now s=use daily disposables which have been absolutely fine. If you wear yours all the time (I wear for 1 or 2 days a week) you mnight want to consider gas permables as they're much better for you. HTH.

Chloe55 · 30/04/2007 19:49

I had hay fever for one year - and one year only!! Very weird, it is possible to get hayfever at anytime in your life.

filthymindedvixen · 30/04/2007 19:49

no not bloodshot, jst raised vessesl IYKWIM.

filthymindedvixen · 30/04/2007 19:50

I have to go now but really appreciating your thoughts and it's keeping my mind of the pain. Itreally painfuil right now. Though that seems to fluctuate.

OP posts:
powder28 · 30/04/2007 19:51

I use daily disposables too, I used to use monthly ones but they arent that great for your eyes

Swizzler · 30/04/2007 19:51

Soz, didn't see that youd stopped wearing them. Advice still holds for later . Chat with your optician. If it gets much worse and you can't get to an optician, cd you go back to your gp or to the hospital? Having had conjunctivitis I fully sympathise - it's painful and horrid.

SaintGeorge · 30/04/2007 19:53

Does sound like hayfever symptoms then.

If you do start noticing pain under changing light conditions, then please make sure you have a slit lamp examination. Also if your eyes become bloodshot or you start getting pain in the surrounding socket or forehead.

I have a condition called iritis which can be quiet damaging if not caught and treated and I was a little concerned that your symptoms sounded similiar.

BettySpaghetti · 30/04/2007 20:00

St George -I was about to suggest iritis/uveitis too.

(I think we "met" on a thread last time I had it didn't we?)

SaintGeorge · 30/04/2007 20:17

I was trying to remember who I had chatted to before about it Betty

BettySpaghetti · 30/04/2007 20:21

Yes, twas me - I just had a quick look in the archives to see if it was you and it was exactly 1 yr ago that I had it last.

How have you been? Anymore episodes of it?

SaintGeorge · 30/04/2007 20:28

Ironically enough yes, today

I did get squirted in the eye with orange juice on Friday though (the things you put up with as a dinnerlady ) and I have felt this dose coming on ever since.

BettySpaghetti · 30/04/2007 20:36

oh no -sorry to hear that.

Did you ever get the GP to refer you for any further tests? (if I remember they didn't routinely give chest x-rays and blood tests in your health authority area whereas here they do it after your second attack).

PS-sorry about the hijack filthymindedvixen

SaintGeorge · 30/04/2007 20:43

No. My attacks in the last year have been minor so I thought I would leave it until I had another 'need to go to the clinic' episode.

Which of course, because I was waiting for it, hasn't happened!

I'm just back to walking around looking like

BettySpaghetti · 30/04/2007 20:57

Well I hope that this clears up quickly for you - it can't be fun, especially in this current bright sun.

filthymindedvixen · 01/05/2007 10:39

ohhhh > St G and Betty I did a silly thing and looked up Iritis on tinterweb. Am scared niow...

Can you tell me anything about whyy one might get it#ritis?
Does sound similar to my symptoms....
My optician is very good I hae more faith in him than GP to be honest.

Eyes seem a little less sensitive this morning (I had to go to bed at 9 last night as I physically could not keep eyes open. Lids were all swollen and eyes felt really strained again.)

OP posts:
BettySpaghetti · 01/05/2007 13:41

oh no, don't panic -sorry we've scared you.

There was no explanation as to why I got iritis. If its recurring it can (but not necessarily) indicate other health problems. I had various tests but nothing showed up.

Iritis/uveitis is treated with steroid drops and drops that dilate your pupil -to begin with the drops can be very frequent but it does clear it up. You do need to get it diagnosed asap though.

The first time I had it the GP thought it was conjunctivitis and prescribed drops accordingly but when they made no difference I went back, he suspected iritis and sent me straight to the opthamology dept of our local hospital. They do various tests with drops, lights and puffs of air! (not painful honest).

How does it feel now? Is it painful? If so where? Does it hurt in bright light?

sorry again for panicking you

filthymindedvixen · 03/05/2007 19:32

Turns out i've got keratitis.
It's a shame really, was looking forward to being yet another tiny clique
I'm a bit gutted though - optician says there's no way I can wear my contacts again for another week or so. I've had to order some prescription sunglasses and because I'm so short-sighted, they can't do the nice ultra thin lenses. So I will be looking like a saddo

(does anyone else turn into a different person when they have to wear their glasses when they are used to wearing contacts??)

I do not feel like myself at all ..

OP posts:
belgo · 03/05/2007 19:36

what is keratitis? Is it related to contact lense use?

filthymindedvixen · 03/05/2007 19:45

It's very painful, I can tell you that much!
It's inflamation of the cornea. There are about a million ways of getting it - contact lens use is one of them..and there doesn't seem to be anything I can do to help it, as treatment depends on what kind you have and it isn't always obvious how you got it, according to my optician. 3 weeks now
