Anal Skin Tag Removal

Hi

I wondered if anyone can share their experience of anal skin tag removal. I went to see a colorectal surgeon as I have two medium sized anal skin tags (6 o'clock and 12 o'clock lucky me) that I am so self conscious of. Find hard to keep clean and one gets intermittently inflamed He was a very gentle surgeon who didn't make it sound like that much of a deal. Yes there will be a few days of pain/uncomfortableness etc but kept reassuring that all will be fine. Minor surgery under general that will only take 15 mins once in etc. Wounds will be left open to heal (no stitches).

I guess I have read some horror stories online etc feel pretty terrified. Anyones experiences would be of great help! (I'm based in London UK)

Have you had your surgery yet. Also based in London U.K. Had surgery last week - 8 days ago. Been in pain but I hope it will be worth it as I had 2 (12 and 9 o'clock) and they were keeping me awake at night. Best advice I can give you is not to get constipated as I couldn't go for 2 days and the first poo after that I nearly passed out. I had to take laxatives to get going. Now taking movicol daily to keep regular. Each day the poo is painful but less so than day before. I have stitches but not fully stitched. The stitches as itching me. I'm only taking a few pain killers as and when. No more codeine as that's what made me constipated in first place. Having baths after toilet to ease pain.

Going on holiday in 4 days time so hope I will be ok by then. Asking nurse to check stitches day before I go.

Let me know what your experience is please as I am worried if the recovery is longer than the 2 weeks the consultant specified.

Oh my goodness Morebeer I had mine 4 days ago!! Was fine until yesterday’s first bowel movement. Going was fine but it was the water cleaning up afterwards that left everything stinging and throbbed! Bowel movement today less so, so I’m hoping I’ll follow same path every day. For me I’ve realised that soaking (at this point) is no good. Even using shower head. The water leaves everything raw so I am cleaning up with soft cotton wool pads with warm water and just very gently dabbing. I don’t even want to look down there until a couple of weeks have passed. I like you I’m using ibuprofen only if I feel I need to. I’m eating very very lightly and only soft foods as this helps with little bowel movements in the hope that the area rests more and can heal with less interruption. Today day 4 feels much better but still seeping. I think it really is a day at a time. Would love to hear how your progress goes...

Hey LillyAnna
We are in almost the same boat right now then! They gave me lactulose and codeine & ibuprofen when I left the hospital. I took the codeine and stupidly it bunged me up and the lactulose did nothing to relieve this. But since being on the movicol at least I’m regular and like you I’m sticking to soft fruits in morning (like to get the BM out of the way first thing), soup for lunch and a light evening meal.

I had a lot of pain the first few days during and after BM but now as long as I am a bit relaxed I’m not in so much pain during or after. I have been soaking in salt bath and I wish I had bought a Sitz bath. The salt bath is not helping as much now. Am also using water based wipes.
Hoping that I am ok in a few days or will not be a great holiday. Trying to get used to wipes rather than baths today as baths will not be as readily available when I am Travelling abroad.

DH has done all my washing ironing and packing for me.

I read somewhere than someone found it eased things to lube the area using cotton buds and Vaseline. Might be worth a try if the water is not helping you.

Hope you (and I) a speedy recovery. Sounds like you are on top of it so far. X

Sorry I know this is an older thread- just wondering if eventually it was worth it? And did you heal up as you’d hoped? I have 3 large external ast’s and I’ve been referred to a colorectal surgeon through the NHS. It’s not a cosmetic issue as the tags swell up as soon as I have a BM and are very sensitive. Hoping you don’t regret the surgery Smile x
