Really concerned about my liver

After Christmas I started getting an odd dull pain on and off around the bottom front of my right ribs. From then it seems to be becoming more persistent and I can feel it in my back too, not a sharp pain but noticeable. The last week I have developed diarrhoea every morning and have to run 3-8 times to the toilet before I head to work. After that no diarrhoea although the rib pain is still there. Tmi although it is brown it is like an orangey/brown at times. My urine is a normal colour and appetite fine although the stress is making me eat less.

I'm freaking out this morning about my liver. I have a reflux disorder so have been on ppis for 16years and the last year a very strong dose along with a strong dose of ranitidine. I do drink more than I should at times at the weekends but do take stretches of months off it sometimes.

Have an appointment this friday with the gp but it seems a long way off to be worrying myself sick about this. My aunt died of liver failure a few years back, although she was an alcoholic who drank every day, so it's petrifying me even more having been in the hospital with her. Is gallstones always a sharp pain? Never thought I'd be hoping for them rather than the other option.

It might be gall stones. It might even be your appendix grumbling a bit. Lay off the booze for a while and give your body a chance to rest. Keep your diet bland to help with the reflux for the moment.

Thanks candle, no worries about laying off the booze. Haven't touched a drop since I started scaring myself silly about this and don't intend to. I thought appendix pain is further down?

No idea if it’s this but an orangey-coloured diarrhoea can be signs of a c diff infection.

I didn't know that angel. Funny last time I was in discussing my meds the gp mentioned long term use they can make people more prone to c-diff infections among other things. Suppose I may prepare myself for having to give a stool sample for the first time ever too.

Might try and get tomorrow off work and go to the walk in instead of waiting for my appointment. I'll be ill with worry by the end of the week.

Although looking at the symptoms on the nhs it doesn't appear to be that. I should know better than to consult Dr Google but I can't help myself.

Do the whites of your eyes look jaundiced? Is your skin very itchy? Do you feel nauseous? Liver function can be easily measured with a blood test.

I'd stop freaking out about your liver and hold on for the appointment with your GP. They know more about your history.

Thanks thyme, that's probably the talking to I need Grin I've talked myself down from this morning and decided to hold off anyway. Nope to the eyes or itchiness. I do feel nauseous sometimes but that's part and parcel of life with my dodgy stomach problems. Maybe joining facebook groups that deal with my condition and are forever going on about the side effects of all the meds wasn't the best idea Grin
