My ears really hurt in the cold weather

Like I want to hold them, if that makes sense?? And they feel pressured. But I don't have any cough/cold symptoms apart from a bit of a headache. Any ideas wise ones?

buy yourself a nice wooly hat or a pair of fluffy earmuffs, it's going to get really cold again this week.

brownelephant · 01/02/2018 17:53

yes to hat/hood/scarf (or all 3)
ears are very sensitive to cold

Soubriquet · 01/02/2018 17:55

My ears are the same

I had surgery on them when I was 11 and since then they have been a lot more sensitive to the cold.

I make sure I always wear a hat, even if it's a bit milder. If I get too hot, I take the hat off, but I put it back on if my ears start hurting

Fadingmemory · 01/02/2018 17:56

Wear a wind stopper (a close fitting under-hat), then a woolly hat on top.

Oh I've been wrapping up with a snood and earmuffs but they actually hurt from cold weather which is something I've never experienced until now.

I have this problem with my ears any time it's cold or windy. I tend to used a woolen or fleece head band around my ears as I get to hot wearing a full hat.

usainbolt · 01/02/2018 18:07

Not stylish or fashionable but they do stop the pain from cold ears
earbags. maybe ok if you have long hair!

PastaOfMuppets · 01/02/2018 18:23

Do you have chillblains?

AcrossthePond55 · 01/02/2018 18:48

OMG I thought I was the only one in the world this happens to!!!

I know exactly what you mean. Cold ears, then a headache, and I actually get slightly nauseous from it!

I haven't found anything other than covering my ears with something sort of 'tight'. A 'regular' hat won't do, it has to be a warm fleece lined Sherpa hat with 'ear flaps', ear muffs, or a thermal ski head band.

Google '180s ear muffs'. They work pretty good and they don't mess your hair up too much. Plus they fold up and fit in a hand bag.

Pearl Izumi makes a really good barrier headband. It's very thin material but really works. Not so good for keeping your hairstyle though. It's pretty wide.

hugoagogo · 01/02/2018 18:54

180s, earbags or thinsulate hat, I am a vision I tell you!Grin

AnnoyedByAlfieBear · 01/02/2018 19:03

I'm the same! I only need a slight breeze in chilly weather for it to start. I look ridiculous in a hat and earmuffs when it's not particularly cold.

Does anyone else have problems being unable to pop their ears on aeroplanes? I'm usually in agony during landing.

Mummy2one2016 · 01/02/2018 19:25

My ears are exactly the same Alfiebear total agony on descent. I can feel them dropping down even before the set belt sign comes on.

AnnoyedByAlfieBear · 02/02/2018 10:34

Yep! I can tell when we've started the descent before we've been told @Mummy2one2016.

hugoagogo · 02/02/2018 10:48

My ears go weird in the dales!Grin

Spartacunt · 02/02/2018 16:30

For the pain on descent when flying: I used to be in agony with this. Buy yourselves some Earplanes from Boots or online - put them in an hour before landing. They are like little corkscrew shaped earplugs with a tiny hole in them and they ease the pressure changes so you don't get any pain- they are brilliant and have changed the way I feel about flying. Just don't take them out until you've landed. They are re-usable too.

AcrossthePond55 · 03/02/2018 14:59

Hmmm, I just googled those 'earplanes'.

I don't have that problem on landing, I think because it's such a rapid descent. But I DO have it when we drive home from the Sierras, which is a descent of about 6500'. I wonder if they'd work for that?
