Would I be wasting GPs time?

One of my breasts feels a bit lumpy. There is a small hard lump but I can only feel it when skin is pulled taught. I first felt it washing in shower when washing.

I don't know if a GP would feel it even. I have large dense breasts and that one is more dense. It is most likely normal lumpy breast tissue. I have no other symptoms that indicate a problem (discharge etc). In fact I'm 99% sure it's nothing but it still niggles in my mind.

I had a stint of being unwell a couple of years ago - chest pain, stomach probs, that was almost certainly anxiety. It makes me feel embarrassed to go see GP as this is likely nothing.

Is this one of those times when they prefer you to see them even if wasting time?

Go and see your GP. It might be nothing worrying but it won’t be a waste of your time or theirs to have it checked.

Sorry should have proof read my post, repeated myself a bit.

Go to the doc.

Lumps in breast should always be investigated. Yes, mostly they turn out to be absolutely nothing to worry about. But it needs checking out anyhow.

The doctor would not think you were wasting their time.

I'm so wary of wasting time if it's an anxiety issue. It helps to hear objective views. I'll try make an appointment. Thanks.

It's not wasting GP time at all. You should go get it checked. That's what the docs are there for x

I went when I found one. I wasn't sure either but felt very anxious about it. When I told the receptionist that it was a lump I got a next day appointment. The doctor thought it was probably fine but still referred me to the hospital and I had the all clear within 2 weeks. Each person I saw said it's better to be safe than sorry. Seriously, you might feel that you're wasting their time but no medical professional would want you to take the risk.

I don’t think it’s wasting time either. Get it checked just in case.

Go and see your GP but also learn how to check your breasts properly which is not pulling the skin tight and digging around- it's lying flat and using the palm of your hand, working from the outside in.

Onefootondryland · 31/01/2018 11:57

Yes Polly, it's not how you should check. Hence my hesitation. Checking as you should I can't feel it at all. I wasn't checking when I first felt it, just rubbing shower gel over. If I press with palm it just feels like squishy bumpy breast. I probably just have a lumpy boob.
