Looking for some advice/reassurance or even just someone to say - me too!

My DD is 1 year old. Her first ever illness/bout of being unwell Started with bad chesty cough being sick, high temp, no appetite, had antibiotics and it cleared after a week back in October

Again in December chesty cough no temp this time left it for around two weeks but in the end got another course of antibiotics once I realised it wasn’t clearing

On last day of course of antibiotics She was well and took her to soft play. Her cough never completely cleared with last round of antibiotics but she was not unwell

Next morning broke out in rash all over body, was advised to take her to hospital when we got to hospital her temp was high, temp of 39.2

Was given calpol at hosp, brought temp down by 1 degree but she had a high heart rate so more calpol and observations for a few hours

Doc assessed Her and said she thought it was viral rash to do with another virus but could
Potentially be chicken pox or hand foot and mouth. Doc said ears were very inflamed and throat was a little red. She was happy as she was still eating and drinking and We were sent home.

Next day rash started to go away, by day 3 rash was gone and no temp

Now we are at the stage were her Cough is still really bad runny nose still bad ears still inflamed and quite dirty looking all of this from around Christmas Day, and a course of antibiotics with no improvement at all.

THEN to top it all off Woke up this morning with both eyes green gunky red and puffy, and completely stuck together getting worse throughout the day :(

Been unwell for around 6 weeks now and I want to know if any other mums/babies have been through the same recently? I know babies get unwell a lot but she’s not at nursery and doesn’t have a huge amount of contact with other children were she could pick things up.

Me and Dad are both well so it’s not us :( we have the doctors again tomorrow

Anyone going/ gone through the same? Have any advice or stories of what happened with your LO and if they ever got better :(

I hear you! Same issues with my 18 month old. It's just one thing after another but they do get through this stage and I'm hoping he'll have a kick-ass immune system to make up for the many, many snotty noses, runny eyes and grungy ears

My DS is 16 months. From around his first birthday in September, to Christmas, he had

-3 or 4 bouts of bacterial tonsillitis (yes it was definitely bacterial, we were referred to ENT and paeds because it was so bad)

  • an ear infection
  • 2 stomach bugs
  • hand foot and mouth
  • a couple of colds
-croup -bronchiolitis

Literally he wasn't well for more than 3 days at a time. He started nursery and clearlyit just battered his immune system. We were at the hospital I think 4? 5? 6? occasions with him in that time, because he became horribly unwell (temps over 40, rigors, non-blanching rash, blood in poo)

It was the worst 4 months of my life

Since christmas, he's been back at nursery a month, and has had a nasty cold that turned into an ear infection, but nothing like on the level we had before the Christmas break.

As a single parent, with a pretty heavy full time job, it was horrific logistically, as well as emotionally. I was almost fired.

But it does get better (touch wood)- and it does stand them in good stead in years to come.

@Inthishouse @QueenNefertitty

Thank u both for the reply. It's nice (if that's the correct word?!) to know that my baby isn't the most unwell baby on earth ever! Coz I obviously think that and I now know that's not the case. Sometimes u just need to know others are experiencing it too, as I too work full time, and colleagues are childless and don't get it (sigh)

@QueenNefertitty wow, that sounds absolutely awful but I'm glad he is all better. I thought my baby was unwell!! Starting nursery in may, just got that to look forward to o suppose.

@Inthishouse it's exhausting not only seeing them unwell which breaks my heart but trying to organise life around a poorly baby is really difficult
