Cold sores and L lysine

What are people's experience of L Lysine? I'm on my 26th outbreak in 14 months Sad some times that's been just one others it's 3/4 at a time so god knows how many sores Iv had over the last year.

I have fibromyalgia and coeliac so I know both these conditions make outbreaks more common but I really can't go on like this. I can't kiss my babies most of the time and terrified my 4 week old will get this from me (read horror stories about it being fatal in some). Iv already had 3 separate out breaks since giving birth. I don't just get the sores I get a high temp and just generally feel miserable too.

I already use compeed patches and apply tea tree essential oil to help kill the bacteria and I'm hoping trying the Lysine will make a difference. Any miracle cures for other severe sufferers would be welcome.

Hi. I have taken L-lysine for a few years, and they really work. I used to get a coldsore every month, and that would last for weeks. So, was like I permanently had a coldsore.
I started taking them every day, then took a few if I felt unwell. Now, I barely need to take them, as I just don’t get coldsores anymore!

I did get 5 coldsores a few months ago, but I was eating nuts everyday. These contain L-arginine, which has the opposite effect as lysine.

I really recommend them. If you take when you feel the tingle, it’s likely to not come up, or just be a tiny blister.

Good luck.

It works for me. I also avoid nuts as mentioned above and chocolate.

Il have a look into the L Arginine that's quite interesting as I'd happily cut things that are likely making them worse. Thank you for that suggestion.

This sounds odd,but our cat has had ongoing problems with eye infections which are herpes related - since she has been on Lysine chews she hasn't had one infection,it's been great,a very obvious change!

Couldn't stomach the tablets as they were like horse pills, but use the Lysine lip salve form Holland and Barrat several times a day and it's had a huge affect on the frequency of my outbreaks.

Mustang27 · 28/01/2018 23:42

Infinite: weird I get eye infections a lot too ShockShock I honestly didn't make the link. Glad your fur baby is better.

They mentioned the salve when I was in ordering it as they had none in stock il get some when I pick up my order. I'm going all out.

The cat is a vetinary mystery, but it's nice that she's better!
With my other hat on though, herpes related eye infections in people can be nasty,so if you think you might have that it'd be best to get advice - GP or optometrist Smile

I get cold sores every time I get a cold and currently have them all under my nose and top lip. Very attractive! Will try the balm from Holland and Barrat

Mustang27 · 03/02/2018 06:26

The girls in H&B told me they are discontinuing the lip balm Shock they couldn't confirm why or wether it was just in smaller stores but I'd check in and restock if you use it just incase.

I couldn't get the lip balm either. I've started on lysine twice a day also using colloid silver spray on mine. I read somewhere avoid cola choc nuts seeds and randomly peas to shorten the outbreak.

BeHereNow31 · 03/02/2018 09:01

The lysine tablets have been made smaller, so easier to swollow. I think the balm just helped to soothe it, not heal it any faster.
Good luck with them

BornInALighthouse · 03/02/2018 09:04

I know someone who uses lysine and still gets them but much smaller and no cluster ones. Thanks for reminding me of the name. I only get them once a year about but always clusters all over rather than just one sore.
