Male or female Gyno Dr - would you be fussed either way?

Just that really. I've been referred for an ongoing problem I've had since August.

Would you prefer to get your bits out in front of a female or male specialist or not bothered?

To be honest I would go to a male specialist, because they are a specialist (and this gyno problem is driving me up the wall). But it did make me surprised to see it was 70% male and 30% female specialists in this field across the 5 hospitals I can choose from (on NHS)

I would prefer a women over a man as find it less embarrassing, but if I had a problem and the only available doctor was male I wouldn't and haven't refused.

ScreamingValenta · 27/01/2018 21:16

I googled the available consultants in my area, and chose the one who had most experience and interest in my condition - she happened to be female but that wasn't the reason for my choice.

Prefer a female myself.

My first cunt. Thanks dude.

Err, gynaecology is more than just doing C sections you know or who do you think take care of prolapses, cysts and all that kind of thing?

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 28/01/2018 20:54

Brazzle, actually she is right to an extent. My brother is a doctor and he says a lot of men become gynecologists because they fail to become surgeons. It is apparently the closest they get to being surgical. I'm only repeating what HE said....don't shoot the messenger!!

Not bothered, I had a male midwife with my 2nd

I'd rather have the one who was best at the job, but all other things being completely equal, I'd rather have a male. They only gynaecological things I've had done are smears and check-ups after having babies, but I always feel embarrassed (though not too embarrassed to go when I should) with a woman because I can't shake the feeling that they might be comparing my private parts unfavourably with their own, whereas with a male I just assume they're seeing me neutrally as a collection of body parts, as it should be. I accept that I'm being illogical and sexist but I can't help it!
