Bladder Infection

Hello, I just wanna to talk out the worry i'm feeling because the gp said I have a bladder infection (which a urine sample proved) but it feels so much worse then previous ones with different symptoms.

Last year I had 3 reoccurring bouts of cystitis which oddly always came up as negative from the urine samples but the symptoms (stinging when peeing, needing to urinate constantly then only a dribble coming out) wouldn't go away unless I took antibiotics.

This time my symptoms don't feel anything like before but I've been given the same antibiotics as before. On Tuesday night I had pain in the pelvis area and it went away quite quickly. On Wednesday my pelvis felt tender and Wednesday night I had awful pain in the central pelvis area and it was tender both sides. It was the kind of pain where you don't want to move or straighten your legs because that makes it hurt more. I went to bed the pain subsided. I also took a pregnancy test just to rule that out because I have a coil (which I've never had any problems with) and I had an ectopic pregnancy 2 years ago so worry more about pelvis pain.

Thursday morning I woke feeling ok and didn't have any pain all day so thought whatever it was had gone away. Then last night my dp and I started intercourse and I had to tell him to stop immediately after about 2/3 minutes because I can only describe it as the sensation you get when you feel a contraction coming during labour. He stopped immediately and I rolled over and entered into excruciating pain, I felt light headed, I felt like I was going to be sick and the pain was like Labour! When it started to subside I did manage to fall asleep.

Today i have felt tender both sides of my pelvis and the centre feels "heavy." I've had no urge to pee more nor have I had any stinging/burning which is why I was surprised when the urine came up positive for infection.

I know symptoms vary for infections but the thing that's worrying me is the pain I experienced after intercourse because I've never felt pain like it during/after sex. Is this something that can happen with a bladder infection? My gp was quite rushed today so it was pretty much give me antibiotics for infection and come back if pain persists so I didn't really get the chance to talk further.

Thank you.

Is it not possible for anal bacteria to be introduced into the vagina during sex, and from there into the uterus via the strings of the coil? The same would apply to the urethra. There used to be a condition called 'honeymoon cystitis'.

Mind you, I had an IUD for many years and would still have it now if my daughter hadn't told me there was a time limit. When I first had it inserted, I was told it could go to the crem with me. I had no problems with it at all, once it was in. I'm one of those unfortunate women with a hypersensitive vagal nerve who faint when the cervix is dilated - hence my reluctance to have it taken out and replaced by another.

Sorry - cross posted. Don't know whether to say that's good or bad news. Tricky when it could be gynae or could be urinary and you fall between two specialisms. Here's hoping you don't have any more episodes.

I have endometriosis and painful bladder syndrome and what you described is exactly what I feel.

I don’t have any of the other endometriosis symptoms and it can only be diagnosed with laparoscopy so it took a while to be diagnosed.

I hope you get some answers soon.

I'm not sure what the gynaecologist will do that is different? I had an ultrasound and the thing where she puts the little camera thing inside my vagina. It said my ovaries/womb where all normal size etc and no sign of any cysts.

OP Look up www.bladderhealth.org.uk
I had IC for years and some of your symptoms sound very similar.

Is it not possible for anal bacteria to be introduced into the vagina during sex, and from there into the uterus via the strings of the coil? The same would apply to the urethra. There used to be a condition called 'honeymoon cystitis'

Any infection via the strings of a coil are a pelvic infection in the uterus. The person would have a high temperature.

If it’s endo you’ll need a laproscopy to diagnose it.

Thank you polly I will look that up. And thank you everyone for your replies. I never realised it was such a complex thing to get to the bottom of!
