Head glue

Hey, I fell and split my head opened on Sunday and I had to have this glued! The doctor gave me an information sheet and I was sent home. I read the information sheet at home and it's stated that I can't wash my hair for 5 days!! This is not okay but I suppose some dry shampoo should do the trick but does anyone know if it's okay to brush my hair? The cut is in the middle of my left side, still really sore and it's still swollen. I have to leave the house tomorrow but I'm scared to put a brush near my head incase it catches on the cut 😴 any help would be appreciated.

poor you, cant you just gently brush your hair around the cut, you could use a baby brush.

Silvercatowner · 23/01/2018 17:21

I'd be very wary of anything near it or pulling on the skin near it. Could you wear a scarf over your hair?

Mini1977 · 24/01/2018 22:13

I managed to slightly brush around the cut but it was very sore 💔 I can't wait until Friday to wash my hair I've never went longer than 2 days without washing it :( after brushing I managed to see how bad it was and it's a pretty big cut so need to be super careful with it :( I'm back at work tomorrow and unfortunatly due to work wear I can't wear a scarf and any more days off is not an option😭 I'm just going to need to soak my hair in dry shampoo and hope for the best x

Be very careful, I don't want to scare you but my daughters split open sometime after it was glued - more than a week. When you do wash your hair be super careful you don't soak the cut as that's another way it can open up - sorry just speaking from bitter experience x

Mini1977 · 26/01/2018 23:43

Thank you for your opinion partypooper123 I haven't yet washed it as online it says 5-7 days. My little one is desperate to go swimming tomorrow do you think it would be okay if I tied it up quite high? It still feels quite swollen and I can feel the glue stuck to my hair if I touch the glue I get a shock feeling thought where the cut is so I'm quite scared to wash it but don't want to let my LG down. I'm also desperate to wash my hair as my skin is quite sensitive so dry shampoo is making me really itchy and uncomfortable. When do you think I'm best washing? My OH says Sunday as that's the 7th day but really I can't deal with this feeling very much longer.

Oh for Christ's sake. You've been told you can't wash it but you're thinking of going swimming? Get a grip and follow the advice you've been given ffs.

Partypopper123 · 27/01/2018 09:52

I definitely wouldn't go swimming, like I said you don't want to soak the cut. Also swimming pools might be risking infection-my Dd's got infected after it opened up.
I would say last as long as you can without washing it, stop the dry shampoo and wear a hat to go out so you don't have to brush it.
When you do wash it can your DH dh do it for you and avoid the cut as much as possible?

lynmilne65 · 27/01/2018 10:52

Suck it up, its not life threatening ffs

Mini1977 · 28/01/2018 01:11

Okay so AlexaAmbidextra I've went by the advice I have been giving but I took my daughter swimming and guess what! I never got my head wet, I don't see why she should be kept from doing things because her mum is clumsy and tripped?

Thanks for your advice Partypopper123 I've stopped with the dry shampoo I've researched and it says 7 days so tomorrow will be the 7th day but not to rub when washing which is quite a hard possibility 😂.

lynmilne65 clearly you haven't been told if you have nothing nice to say don't say it at all! I wasn't asking for idiotic comments I was asking for advice and yours isn't relevant 👍

Mini. Well I'm very glad to hear it otherwise no doubt you'd have been back at the ED wasting their time.

retirednow · 28/01/2018 19:34

Alexa, that is pretty rude and unhelpful.

Batfurger · 28/01/2018 19:34

Facebook is probably the place where you’ll get the attention you’re craving.

DextroDependant · 28/01/2018 19:37

I had to have my head glued once, I kept it dry and just wore my hair in a pony. Was a long week but needs must.

AlexaAmbidextra · 28/01/2018 21:56

Well Retired perhaps as a jaded HCP I get sick of people wilfully undoing our good work and then expecting us to make it alright again.

retirednow · 28/01/2018 22:30

Well maybe as a hcp you shouldn't judge people and just take care of them instead even if you don't agree with their choices.

BackforGood · 28/01/2018 22:49

Alexa is right.
OP has had an accident.
She has been given medical advice not to get it wet and has come on here to ask if she can ignore it. Posters have said no, don't ignore it, it is the right advice. So OP then suggests going swimming Hmm

OP - I'm sorry you had an accident but you are lucky enough, at the moment, to live in a country where healthcare is free at point of delivery, but you'd have to be living on Mars to not know that the NHS is on it's knees. A lot of people feel the NHS would be n a lot better shape if everyone followed medical advice.
Your hair looking a bit messy for a few days is not really crucial in the scheme of things. Your health is more important.

AlexaAmbidextra · 29/01/2018 00:17

Well I'm afraid I do judge them if their foolish actions impact on others. A doctor or nurse re-glueing a head wound could be treating another patient.

retirednow · 29/01/2018 12:32

You can take a child swimming without getting you hair wet, I never put my head under the water and most mum's are just there for supervision.

BatFaceGal · 29/01/2018 14:29

Cannot believe the posters trying to defend their quite frankly indefensible opinions.

You've been given medical advice from a qualified practitioner. So sorry to hear that it's 'not ok' to not wash your hair for five days. Maybe it was a bloody inconvenience to the HCP who had to patch you up the first time.

Maybe just follow the advice you've been given. Stop potentially wasting NHS resources

retirednow · 29/01/2018 14:33

Maybe it was a bloody inconvenience to the hcp who has to patch you up the first time, jeeps is this really what hcp think, it's a bloody inconvenience to help someone when they fall and cut their head open.

BatFaceGal · 29/01/2018 14:36

No. It becomes the inconvenience when the OP goes against advice and has to return. I should have been clearer

But come on ... you support the OPs actions. And that's not right

Mini1977 · 30/01/2018 21:51

I've just seen all these messages due to work commitments thanks retirednow for having my back 👌

For one Batfurger I ain't looking for attention thanks very much I was looking for help!!

AlexaAmbidextra I was never time wasting clearly not if the bang to my head was bad enough to have it glued!! The information sheet I got from the NHS, never stated anything about not washing my hair all it said was what to look out for if I was feeling drowsy etc so I had to actually go on to the NHS website for this information. I did obey their rules and only washed my hair lastnight so no I never went against the rules or wasted any time BatFaceGal. Frankly enough after washing my hair I still have Hugh clumps in of glue I suspect in it but yet again no information was giving on how to remove this!

Yes i am lucky enough to live in a country where NHS pays for all treatments for their patients, I wouldn't mind paying as I understand that they struggle but seriously people? Coming on this post to make me out like an attention seeker etc is quite petty don't you think?

Mini. I didn't say your initial hospital visit was timewasting. I said you would be timewasting if you went against the good advice given and needed to be reglued as a result.
