i have never done running in my life and i haven't done any kind of sport for many years. keep meaning to start doing running in the evenings but when it comes to it i cant be bothered.

i need something to motivate me and was thinking about maybe running the london marathon next year as something to aim for

is this too unrealistic??

no, probably not, but I'd see if you get a place first.
also, that distance might not be your thing - there are lots of other charitable events starting out at 5k and 10k that you might want to try out as well, or alongside your marathon training

no you can do it its amazing what you can acheive in a year

tiredemma · 27/04/2007 20:45

what about the Tesco Race For Life?

Its 5k- you could train to run that first of all and see how you cope.

LittleSarah · 27/04/2007 20:46

Well I am going to do it!

Have been looking at running websites to find out how to get started. Most have training plans for marathons that are 16-24 weeks so I think if you/I start running now and build up slowly it is manageable.

Good luck!

juicychops · 27/04/2007 20:52

think il give it a go then. you cant apply until august i think it said on the website so when it comes il see how i feel and if im ready il apply and see if i get through. if not then maybe il try a smaller one until the following year

i need motivation to give me a kick start!!

juicy - of course you can do it!

I'd start by signing up for a Race for Life and maybe a 10k a little later. If you can be running that distance by the end of the summer, apply and then get down to some longer distance training. There are quite a few different plans on the Runners World website. And join in on the Runners Rehomed thread under Health on here
