Itchy tingly breast

The answer is gp isn't it?

Both boobs have been itchy but one definitely more than the other. That same boob had had a kind of buzzy sensation in it. It's kind of just under the nipple but not on it.

No sores or red patches. Some pain but I've had that on and off for years.

Probably noticed this over the last couple of months. It does seem to be worse just before I get my period so it's probably that isn't it?

I have health anxiety. I googled and found a fair amount of stuff saying these symptoms don't suggest cancer then a great page from a bc support forum saying everyone had this so I've gone into panic mode.

On the other hand I don't want to waste my gps time as I know how busy they are :(

You will not be wasting your gp's time! I had exactly the same a few years ago, both breasts were incredibly itchy, one more than the other. When I was in the shower one morning I discovered that I'd scratched one side til it was raw during the night. Saw gp who said that because the skin is so delicate there, it had reacted to being scratched and in trying to repair itself had started an itch/scratch cycle. I was referred to a breast clinic more to put my mind at rest than anything as I was suffering from a bout of anxiety (stress related) at the time. All was fine and some steroid cream settled things down.

Thanks Blue.

I've made an appointment so that's a first step.

That's good, the gp will honestly not think you are wasting their time if you go with any breast related concerns. Good luck

MyPreciousWaja · 24/01/2018 07:48

Phyllis I know this sounds silly, but twice when my anxiety has flared up it has manifested as a strange itchy, burns, buzzy breast pain. Of course I was convinced it was something dreadful but the gp was more concerned about how panicky I was. She convinced me to try ADs and a couple of weeks later, the weird pain had gone.

It flared up again a while ago when I was very anxious about a (real!) health problem, but passed fairly quickly.

Of course you should get checked but I just thought I'd let you know that anxiety can cause exactly these sensations.

Oblomov18 · 24/01/2018 08:23

Interesting about the itch/scratch cycle. What does that mean please?
Mine have always been itchy. I can't wait to whip my bra off at the end of every day and give them a good scratch. I assumed that was normal.

Sorry, op yours is clearly more serious. Hope GP reassures you.

PhyllisWig · 24/01/2018 08:55

Thanks Precious. I do react physically to anxiety but never in my boobs before! I've had a lot tumbling on the background which I though I was ok with but possibly not so much.....

I have relaxed a bit as the other boob was playing right up yesterday which to me implies a skin thing. I am still going to the dr but am a touch more rational!

Phyllis-really interesting what you said about anxiety potentially causing this, as I said in my pp, I was very anxious at the time it happened to me...
Oblimov-the itch scratch cycle was explained to me as being thecresukt if damaged skin (Having been scratched) starting to heal (feeling itchy as it grows/repairs) leading to scratching again, and repeat iyswim. Also I think something to do with breast skin being thinner causes this to be more pronounced

Bluesheep8 · 24/01/2018 13:23

The result of damaged skin! Blooming phone!

Oblomov18 · 24/01/2018 16:23

Thank you Blue. Very interesting.

So update is that there is a little lump there.

It hurts when prodded which apparently is a good thing as bad lumps don't often hurt but off to the breast clinic I go......

I just wrote something in a thread further up. Phyllis I could have written exactly what you did. My left breast is tingly, slightly itchy and just feels "there" unlike the other side. It's just kind of noticable feels like it's not quite a part of me. I'm desperately hoping it's hormonal and maybe the start of menopause? Got an appt tomorrow morning at 9am (have to miss parkrun, booo :-( ). My mum died from BC when I was 15, she was 44 so I'm pretty concerned.

Have you been referred to the hospital?

PhyllisWig · 02/02/2018 19:24

Hi Catherine

Yep, referred on for all the checks

Good luck Phyllis report back. Any idea when appt will be?

CatherineCawood · 03/02/2018 11:36

Saw GP this morning, he was really nice. He found 2 lumps, I've had a feel and I can't find them. He obviously knows what he is doing. It was a bit painful when he squished me. He is referring me under the 2 week wait due to family history. He didn't feel that there was much cause for concern.

So just need to wait for a letter or phone call now.

PhyllisWig · 03/02/2018 16:19

Pleased you were seen Catherine- I can't find my lump either (and neither can dh who has been diligent in his searchHmm

Pain and squishy good. Fingers crossed for a quick appointment.

I am hoping a date will come through early next week. The only bummer is I suspect my appointment will be the week after next in half term so dh will need to take the kids out. Ah well.
