Feeling like I'm swimming through treacle. Why?

No energy, everything is too much effort, no motivation, can't concentrate.

I'm not sleep deprived, not ill, eat well. Probably stressed, but no more than usual.

Is this a vitamin deficiency? Stress related? Age related?

Depression?

allegretto · 21/01/2018 18:11

Menopause?

FoofFighter · 21/01/2018 18:13

B12? tHYROID? Iron?

tweetypi · 21/01/2018 18:14

Vitamin D?

Pittapatter · 21/01/2018 18:16

I felt like this before I was diagnosed B12 and Folate deficient. Ask your GP just a simple blood test

midsomermurderess · 21/01/2018 18:18

Maybe your are anaemic. I felt like you for ages and it came to a head over Christmas when I could barely put one foot in front of another. Was diagnosed last week but need more tests to work out why.

LordBuckethead · 21/01/2018 18:26

I guess I need a blood test then.

I don't think it's menopausal, I'm 42 but still have a very regular 28 day cycle.

I don't feel depressed as such. I feel fed up, but only because I feel so tired.

I felt similar about 18 mo the ago, same age. I went to the dr who said could I go part time (no) or spend more time on myself (no) Did some Superficial bloods. Nothing major.

I put myself on vitamin b complex, slow release, as someone else recommended, and have not looked back.

LemonysSnicket · 21/01/2018 21:54

Could be vitamin D deficiency, or iron ?
Anaemia makes people exhausted sometimes.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/01/2018 21:57

Definitely get bloods done. Anaemia pretty much flattened me, to the point I could barely drag myself around.

Gingernaut · 21/01/2018 21:59

Obvious ones are depression, anaemia or Vit B deficiency.

If this is completely out of the blue and you feel like you're sickening for something, get thee to a doctor.

RainbowHash · 21/01/2018 22:07

Sounds very much like under active thyroid to me - is exactly what I felt like before being diagnosed and subsequently treated. All good now though and is a simple blood test to determine.

Do you have very dry skin and putting on weight a bit more easily than you used to? Oh, and also 'brain fog' where you can't think straight. They're also symptoms. I also got nauseous and depressed, but that's not as common I think.

Sheeeesh · 21/01/2018 22:08

Is it post viral?

LordBuckethead · 22/01/2018 21:39

Not post viral - I haven't had a bug for about 2 or 3 years, so at least my immune system is functioning ok!

I don't have dry skin (quite the opposite) and not noticed any weight gain.

I probably won't get to doctors till next week now so I've got myself some spatone and multivits today just in case it's a vitamin deficiency. I have been anaemic before, when I was pregnant both times.

The only other time I felt like this was when I had glandular fever.

It’s best not to take iron supplements before you are tested for a deficiency. Also, ask for your actual results as low ferritin can cause tiredness even if above the NHS clinical cut off point of 12 or 14. Ideally needs to be over 50-70.

Dreamslongforgotten75 · 23/01/2018 10:57

I felt exactly like you a while back. The first supplement I took was a sub lingual vitamin B12. It took about 3 months to notice some changes. After that I started to take iron( as my level was 7 with a ferritin of 4) that helped a lot. Thirdly, I took Vitamin D spray & it was then that everything came together & I felt a lot better. Lastly, I stated to use a magnesium spray and that also helped. Right now I’m feeling much better so it’s definitely worth getting some blood tests done to determine what’s going on. Also 42.

Dreamslongforgotten75 · 23/01/2018 11:00

Meant to say I also took spatone ( 2 sachets a day) as I couldn’t tolerate any others. I also had glandular fever & it felt very much like that when I was feeling rubbish !
