Bell's palsy in kids

Hi there, my DS age 10 has just been diagnosed with Bell's Palsy following an ear infection.
They are seeing him again in 6 wks. But I'm praying it's cleared by then.
Has anyone else's kids had this and how long did it take to recover? He is on anti viral medication and steroids and we are taping his eye shut at night. Has anyone tried alternative therapies that were useful as well?

I hope your son is better soon.

My mum had Bells Palsy; she only took the medication that was given to her. She went onto make a full recovery but it did take a couple of weeks.

My daughter had it at 8 and it took about 6-8 weeks to totally clear up.

MY 6 year old has Bell's palsy which came on 2 weeks after a nasty dose of chicken pox.

Incredibly fast recovery. By 3 weeks he was pretty much recovered.

Your poor things. I've had it twice as an adult. First time it took me 5 weeks to make a full recovery.

Thanks everyone, that helps me feel more reassured.
He has to take anti virals 5 times a day for the next 5 days, so I will prob keep him off school. I doubt they be willing to administer.

Make sure you give him eye drops as they will get really dry.

Aye, the dr prescribed him an ointment which he isn't fussed on. I managed to get him to allow me to put it on tonight. Will def tape his eye shut at bedtime tonight, as I think that's why his eye was so annoyed today.

I know someone who had Bell’s Palsy as a teen, so not quite as young as your son. I believe he took medication for some years before, after research of his own, opting to go vegan in his early 20’s and cease medication. He’s now in his late 40’s and has not had it occur again since the dietary changes. I’ve no vegan agenda ( in the slightest) and it could easily be coincidental.

George Clooney has Bell’s Palsy as a young boy/teen, I believe. And hasn’t had it occur obviously in all the years he has been in the public eye.

I hope your little boy is better soon Flowers
