The HV checked him yesterday as I'd felt a couple of lumps on the back of his head. I weighed him too & he'd lost 5oz in 2 weeks (went from 14lb 10 to 14lb 5). He's had no other symptoms, no cough, runny nose etc & he eats as much as ever & settles well between feeds. HV says the fact that his glands are up means he's fighting something & the fact that he has no other visible symptoms means that he's winning & she didn't seem too concerned but I'm really worried - has anyone else experienced this?

hi there my dd is 2 and from a very early age her glands (pea sized lumps at the back of her head) are often up. I can even feel them (just slightly) even when they are down , I've been told not to worry also. funnily enough dd's came up on sun, now she has chicken pox xx

Thanks greyriver - now that you mention it dd3's glands were up for a while when she had chicken pox last year. Guess maybe I'll keep a watch out for spots lol.
It's reassuring to know that your little one sometimes has swollen glands for no apparent reason too - maybe it's just one of those things & I'm just being a paranoid mummy

Hope your poor dd gets over her chicken pox soon!

From your title alone I was going to tell you exactly what the HV had said - he is fighting something and obviously doing a good job if the 'illness' is not actually presenting itself.

Swollen glands does just mean that the immune system is on alert and active so to speak - usually because of an infection. If there are no other symptoms I would let it be and let him carry on fighting the infection himself.
