Quick menopause question

Is flushing of the face and neck (redness and burning sensation), without sweating or heat in the rest of the body, a menopausal hot flush? I always thought that it was a whole body sensation and that you also sweat. I seem to develop this red burning face and chest in the early evening, typically after eating a meal. It lasts an hour or so, but the rest of my body is cool and there is no sweating.

This doesnt fit what i understood a hot flush to be, but it's dawned on me that of late I have had some bladder issues, I'm irritable more often than usual, I'm not weepy but I have had some sudden overwhelming feelings of not being able to cope at work. All potential symptoms, acording to the Menopause Matters website that the practice nurse sent me to. Confused

Yep that sounds like menopause to me, to a T. Burning sensation but body can feel 'cold' inside.

GretchenFranklin · 17/01/2018 23:27

My hot flushes tend to be neck upwards! A sudden simmering effect heating up and slowly subsiding over a few minutes. I get them if I think of something that makes me anxious (often). I think everyone has a slightly different approach. Lol.

Yes my arms and body feel totally cool! But the face/chest flushing can last over an hour, not just a few minutes? I suppose everyone is different...

I have a mirena coil and haven't had a period in 7 years, so the most obvious symptom is absent!

ah, but this is just the start, Radio... you're starting the menopause, ie in perimenopause. You may have periods/(or not of course with the coil) for a few more years before your hormones give a final sputter and die!!

Mumontherocks1 · 17/01/2018 23:38

I get this. My neck and back of my head gets so hot. If I'm in the car I open the windows until it subsides. I am going to purchase a cool pillow.

The funny thing is I am still having periods so not menopausal. Perhaps it's the peri menopause.

I am a bit anxious but my DC 19 & 21 are going through some issues and quite frankly are being quite hard work so maybe that's causing the anxiety.

My periods are so heavy the first few days. I've never had this before and I hate it so much. I am tempted to see if I can go on the pill to make my periods stop but don't like the idea of doing this.

I just wish I could press fast forward and eliminate the next 5 years. Terrible ungrateful thought I know.

Interesting about the Minera coil. I had this once and bled continuously for 4 weeks. It was horrific and I went to A&E one night to have it removed.

RadioDorothy · 17/01/2018 23:43

Oh blimey. Ah well...It does explain some of my weird forgetfulness lately, and generally being just a bit of a tit - I swayed my way around an airport yesterday having lost all common sense and powers of reason, walking the wrong way, incapable of reading signage and being in a total bloody daze.

I keep saying out loud "What IS the matter with you?" I have been feeling a bit strange, maybe it has been hormones all along!

MumontheRocks Oh I didn't get on with it at the start - it took 6 months for the screaming agony and twisting searing pain to subside! Been fine ever since though.

I've had a few of these and it was as if my internal thermostat had gone off so I was getting too hot inside

newtlover · 18/01/2018 21:18

cardigans, that is the key to it all
