does it help with anxiety, specifically health anxiety?

my friend says yes, another friend says no and I'm confused.

I'm going to ask my gp for this, I have really bad health anxiety just now and my mind is racing, heart is thudding and mind is on total overdrive...and I can't stop myself, although I know I'm probably going over the top and blowing things out of proportion.

I've had 8 weeks of cbt for this but when my heart is racing I can't think straight, I also have to go to the loo umpteen times as I get a very upset stomach when worried Blush, its mad I know but I can't control myself getting anxious and worried sick and I need help.

I was on this 20yrs ago for a year or so to slow my heart down and regulate it when I had Graves Disease. I also have HA on and off but the propranolol did nothing to mitigate that or control anxiety. It had quite bad side effects for me in terms of terrible graphic dreams which I never had before or since. I had 10 weeks of CBT for the HA several years later and I found it really helped me to rationalise things. However, you sound really anxious so it probably is worth talking to your GP to see if there is something else that can help. HA is horrible.

I was on propranolol for panic attacks so I would take a tablet or two before leaving the house/going into a stressful situation like public transport or uni. I became fixated on using them though and felt I couldn't go anywhere without having them with me/taking one so it's definitely worth discussing with your GP as it's not a good fit for everyone Thanks

I first had it to get me off prozac when I had a bad reaction to it and my anxiety went from awful to gibbering wreck. I'm off other anxiety meds atm but I take propananol when I have a (for me) minor attack. I have diazepam for the big stuff.
