Ear Infection - Advice Please

I've been told by my doctor that my ds has an ear infection, we thought he had a stomach bug because he has been bringing back up food since Monday morning. Started anti biotic yesterday and he is ok on and off but still bringing up food. We were told to give him food if he's hungry (bottles and dry toast) but he is still bringing it back up again. He keeps down water though. He is really off this morning. Has anyone been here before? Any ideas as to how long it will take the antibiotic to start working?

If he's throwing up the antibiotics along with the food, they won't be working terribly well. I've usually found that they kick in around 48 hours after starting the course though.

Could you gp prescribe the antibiotics as ear drops? We always found that worked better, and faster.

oh poor thing. I dont know about bringing up food with ear infections but I do know that a doctor did tell me stomach pains was also an indicater of ear infection. I thought this was very strange at the time but my dd did always suffer with stomache ache associated with her ear infection. If your still worried give the doctor a call or maybe get a second opinion. I would imagine you should see a difference in two or three days. Have you got him on calpol too for the discomfort?

Ear drops sound good. I have been given Brofen and Paralink for pain, it sounds silly but I am more worried about the sick stomach because it's been at him since early on Monday morning. I gave the anti biotic early this morning before food so hopefully it will go inti his system. I mean how long can a child be throwing up before it's serious? Maybe I'll see how he goes today and phone my doctor this evening.

If he's keeping down water then they'll be fine for quite a while as they won't get dehydrated. Try something ike dioralyte to replace lost salts etc?

Yeah at least the water is staying down. Anyone else had a toddler with an ear infection and a very sick tummy. How long did it last?
