I need to lose some weight - about 10-15kg would be ideal. I eat reasonably though not brilliantly, walk with the DCs a bit and have just started a gym class once a week. Should I join one of these? Or something else? What is the basic premise of each?

TIA!

i've lost 1st 12lb so far on weightwatchers online.

no meetings, just put my points in at the end of every day. can eat and drink what i want but within my points. i.e. if it is wine and slap up meal one night, it is probably stirfried veg and rice next day.

you lose slowly (i've lost this over the last year and a bit) and therefore hopefully you keep it off.

I started slimming world last week and lost 6.5lb!

its basicly a healthy eating regime that is spelt out really simply so you don't mix too many carbs with too many protiens sort of thing (from what i can make out)

you choose from a green or original day. on an original day you eat a much lean meat as you like on a green day its as many things like pasta, potatoes, rice etc.

It may not suit all but its working for me.

plus you can eat all day long, just so long as you pick from the "free" sections.

can you drink booze???

mamazon · 26/04/2007 00:08

yeah you have a thing called "syns" you should allow yourself betweem 5-15 a day but you can save them up all week and then use them at the weekend or whatever.

so i you want to go out for a meal you can, if you want a rinking sesh you can.

as i say its only my first week but i am finding it really easy and quite straight forward to follow.

Hi I have done both and both work (till you come off diet lol). It all depends what you prefer and where your weaknesses are. Basically, WW is great if you like junkfood like mcdonalds you can still eat it on WW as long as you count it, that goes for anything like beer or crisps as long as you count it (once your points are up though you have to stop eating! They run out quick!). Meals are less repetetive on WW also. SW is good for eating as much jacket potato, syn free chips or low fat meat on a red day and you can keep eating the 'free foods' all day if you like (and i did and still lost 2 lbs a week) but I found it tough when eating out etc. With SW I could have 2 bags low fat crisps a day and marg on bread. Vodka also isn't many syns (didn't used to be anyway) WW do a new plan now simelar to SW called no count or something, haven't tried that. Sorry for waffling but they are both good and work but for me WW suits me more for the ease of their range of foods and more variety. Good luck!

Thanks everyone, I thnk I'm leaning towards SW, as I don't realy like the idea of counting a lot and having to remember everything I eat etc. I don't eat a lot of 'junk' eg MickyDs, crisps, etc, just snack on silly things like a honey sandwich if the kids have one etc.

Now I just have to get brave enough to go along to a meeting! What are they like?

i do weight watchers - the core plan so no weighing or measuring and yes you can have alcohol and chocolate (you get 21 extra points per week) - it is dead easy and i have lost 9 lbs in 5 weeks

Astrophe · 26/04/2007 20:25

just re read your post Jellybeans - when you say you lost weight until you came of it, does this mean you put it all straight baCK ON? uH OH! I am hoping to do the diet, lose the weight, then continue eating well but not do the diet as such, and was hoping I would be able to maintain my weight this way. I am not gaining weight at the moment, just want to lose some then maintain it.
