Will dd's face scar? Should I use bio oil?

DD2 has some very nasty clusters of chicken pox on her face (pic on profile)DS has just got over chicken pox and his have left some nast 'holes'. I'm a bit worried that because her skin is so soft she will end up with scars.

Is bio any good with chicken pox scars? If so, when do you put it on - immediately after the scabs come off?

Oh she's gorgeous ZC. Even with the spots poor mite. Think we were pretty lucky on the facial spots front with our recent cp - more on scalp than on the face, and since I hope ds will eventually grow hair not so worrying.
No advice about the bio oil, though dd who had cp 2 weeks before easter still has patches rather than craters where the spots were on her faces and I'd also be interested in any advice. Think someone mentioned Vitamin E capsules.
Hope someone more knowledgeable comes along soon.

I'm sure he will grow hair DD has a horrid patch on her chin where she has discovered they are there and is constantly licking them so they have gone all yukky where they haven't been able to dry out, not attractive!!

Everyone stares at her when we're out like she's some sort of freak!

Fingers crossed on the hair front, though he takes after his father....
Both ds and dd have dummies and ds was particularly dribbly because of spots in mouth, so I know what you mean about the soggy ones. Not much help if she's going to lick off any stuff you put on them to dry them out (I got rather fond of lanocaine? medicated cooling talcum powder for ds's body spots).
Has your ds1 had it yet? Or is he brewing?

zephyrcat · 25/04/2007 22:24

Yes, dd has a dummie too which doesn't help with keeping it dry! I asked the pharmacist but she just said ask the doctor and the doctor said just leave it for now - but also that because they are around her nose and mouth they could spread to her lungs

DS was the first one to get it, then dd1&2 got it together but dd1 is all scabbed over now, whereas dd2 is just a mess!!

Oh she is gorgeous, zc

DS1, who didn't get it very badly, did end up with a couple of scars and IIRC they were from the first, hugest spots which just happened to be on his face and did leave those craters underneath.

DD2 had terrible spots, everywhere, and has no scars at all.

Fingers crossed your DD will be like mine!

AngharadGoldenhand · 26/04/2007 10:04

When one of my kids had chickenpox, the only one that scarred, is one that I'd mistaken for food and was trying to wipe off.
I rubbed the top of the scab off and there is a small mark there.

Could you just try and keep them as dry as possible - bribery?

WendyWeber · 26/04/2007 10:05

Oh, and DD1 and DS are gorgeous too, I just went back for another look and realised I'd missed them

WendyWeber · 26/04/2007 10:07

AG, it might well have got knocked off later even if you hadn't wiped it - I think DS1's did - don't blame yourself

zephyrcat · 26/04/2007 10:17

ww that sounds just like these, ds has 2 scars from the 2 first and biggest spots, they've left big holes - I'm wondering if bio oil might fix him too. DD1 looks like she is going the same wat but dd2's spots are very small, bbut in big patches....hopefully she'll be the same as your dd!! Did she have any redness left after the scabs?

I am sure she won't have any scarring but my dd has a scar on her face and I use bio oil. It def helps, and I can tell when we have been a bit lax and not put it on for a couple of days (like this weekend when we forgot to take it away with us. It can't be used on broken skin though so I would just wait and see for now. It seems expensive but it lasts forever! I would say that as she is so young the skin will heal much better than on an older child. HTH. And your dc's are very gorgeous

WendyWeber · 26/04/2007 10:24

Well DD2's chickenpox was 20 years ago (almost exactly in fact!) so I don't have perfect recall of what happened at the time, but she ended up with no marks on her face (or anywhere else that I'm aware of now, although I think the scars-from-big-first-spots thing is universal so she must have some somewhere, I've just forgotten).

WendyWeber · 26/04/2007 10:26

Is there a time limit on when bio oil will work? I've got some antique scars, I wonder if it make them disappear? (I don't even know what it is or where you get it though!)

zephyrcat · 26/04/2007 11:59

You get it in Boots and I guess most chemists - I think it is mainly directed at stretch marks and is about £10 a tube but if it works then has to be worth a go!! I 've got 'holes' from chicken pox I had when I was 16 and people always ask what they are so I'd rather get dd and ds' filled in if I can!
