Gallbladder Removal

Just wanted to put a thread out there that may help people in the future as i was terrified as all I could find was more negative that positive. And a few people have helped me on here so would like to help somebody else.

Had my gallbladder removed 2 weeks ago, after some very painful attacks. Was admitted as a day case and came out the same day, though quite late. Had 25 stones removed. Up to about day 3 I felt shocking but started to feel a bit better after laying off the pain killers, digestion was odd and day 4 I had the most horrendous burning diarrhea, but only 2 attacks of it during the day. Next day I was terrified to eat but had a very bland diet and all seemed a bit better. Lots of very odd aches and pains from about my throat??? down to my breast bone. But every day I seemed a bit better, few occasions of nausea but ate a ginger biscuit and this seemed to stop that. Took a while for my appetite to get back to normal. Now fast forward to today, 2 weeks after surgery. Healing well, no real pain to speak off apart from odd twinges if I move certain ways. Digestion back to normal, slowly increasing fat back in to my diet and I seem to tolerate it ok so far, appetite back to normal. Still feel a bit more tired that normal and did feel a bit sicky yesterday for a bit but again a ginger biscuit solved it quickly.

My Mum has also had her gallbladder removed but had a horrendous time as she has a infected gallbladder which she didnt know she had and it was basically poisoning her for a long time which made her very sick with lots of odd things. She has also made a full recovery and can eat what she wants now.

So they can be dangerous if left untreated, and it has only really taken 2 weeks out of my life.

Hope this helps somebody in the future.

My mum had hers removed, I never heard about it being an issue afterwards.

How did you know there was a problem with the gallbladder in the first place? How did you discover the problem? I have no idea what the gallbladder does, really, come to think of it.

Well my Mum never knew she had gallstones. But she had recurring chest infections, water infections, in fact tons of quite odd infections. She had tons of blood tests but they could never pin point it. She never had any pain from her gallbladder. And then she went in to have a chest xray and that when they seen the gallstones and a hugely infected gallbladder, had it removed and not one single infection since.

Also it can be found in families.

I on the other hand had 3 attacks of such severe pain, horrendous pain, wouldnt want to wish it on anybody. Is not the sort of pain that you can just put up with, I honestly thought I was dying and this has to be so serious as it hurts so much, starts on your left side and radiates all round your back and chest area, horrible.

I knew somebody else who had the horrendous pain.

But so worth doing the surgery and I personally know quite a few people who have had it done and are left with no long term effects.
