I'm getting electric shocks from my dental implant

I've got 3 dental implants, in different parts of my mouth. I've had them for just over a year and have started getting electric shocks from 2 of them. Has anyone else had this problem?

No, but it must mean that you have different kinds of metals, causing a galvanic current? Does it get worse if you eat a lemon (sour liquid acting as a conduit for the electrical current)? You should discuss with a dentist, preferably someone else than the one having put in your implants in case he didn't know what he was doing.

I only vaguely recall galvanic currents from my physics lessons back in the 1980's so am not up to date on how it works.

I don't know what it is but my DH is always complaining about getting shocks off a tooth and I always tell him he's crazy Blush
I honestly didn't realise you could have this.

Having fillings of different metals does create a galvanic current. Basically your teeth have become a very basic battery.

that figures - I have a crown on a metal post adjacent. I wonder if that means if I have to have one of them removed? I know this sounds daft, but could I stop the charge building up in any way, like drinking more water?

No but you could stop it by seeing a proper dentist (someone else than your current dentist who presumably fitted the different metal fillings).

Thanks - I'll get along to the dentist

Meanwhile you might want to avoid sour food and see if it helps.

Also read this blog. Do you have amalgam fillings? You might want to replace them (not only for this reason but they do contain mercury, Hg)
