Extremely heavy periods

I'm now on day 15 of extremely heavy periods. I have PCOS as well as an underactive thyroid.
When I say extremely heavy, I mean that I'm having to wear inconinence pants & I have to change them multiple times per day. I have flooding as well as huge blood clots with it.
I can't get a doctors appointment unless it's an emergency but I do have iron tablets on a repeat px. I used to take tranexamic acid tablets but they triggered to worst migraines that I've ever had.
I'm 42 and suspect that I'm peri-menopausal but I don't know what to do. All I could do yesterday was to lay on the sofa with a hot water bottle, water & painkillers.
I'm not sure what I want from posting this, I just needed to write this down

That sounds awful, you must be exhausted. I don't have any answers, but wondered if you can get a telephone consultation quicker to get the GP's advice. Our doctor does those before and after surgery. Also, ibuprofen for pain relief if you're not already taking those, as I believe it can help to reduce blood loss.

That is an emergency. Explain to receptionist- VERY heavy bleeding and you will get seen - there are things the GP can give - good luck xx

You need medical advice from the GP asap and a referral to a gynaecologist to see if fibroids are present. These can cause such heavy bleeding to arise. You should not put up with heavy periods as these can also cause you to become anaemic.

How is your underactive thyroid being treated?.

If your GP surgery is run so that you cannot get an appointment unless its an emergency then I would register at another practice in the longer term.

Thanks for all of your replies. I managed to speak to a GP over the phone, who then called me in for an appointment. I have a px for tranexamic acid but I have to be careful of migraines. I am also getting a referral to a gynaecologist in regards to getting a mirena coil or endometrial ablation done.

I a man also having frequent extremely heavy periods and also bleeding after sex. My go is being very unhelpful insisting it's the pill. I am v v bloated and uncomfortable and in pain between periods. Having swab done the. She says ultrasound then gynae referral! It has been going on since summer!

I had exactly the same a few years ago and became dangerously anaemic and had the endometrial ablation as I didn't want a mirena coil. It was brilliant. Some women's periods never return but unfortunately mine did come back after about 5 months but were so light I couldn't even wear a tampon. The only thing I found was for the first couple of months that my periods returned I had really bad period pains but it soon settled down.

I hope you get sorted soon Op. I know how awful it is.

I had similar bleeding for about 4 weeks recently. The bleeding was a one off that the gp put down to stress 😒. She prescribed norethisterone to stop the bleeding. I'm now waiting on the results of some blood tests. I still feel like crap though despite the bleeding stopping.

Good luck.
