So as not to drip feed, I am chronically ill (physically / mentally / neurologically) and am on a long list of medication every day and I have a full care package from social services as well.
I am trying to be as independent as possible have double handed care calls x 4 times per day. 2 of those carers are off ill at the moment due to the flu. One of them has apparently been floored really badly.
I think the vaccine comes in little ready batches which are usually injected to upper arm, is there anyway does anyone know if this year's flu jab can be done IM to glutes in the similar method of it working like other medications like (depo provera or clopixol or Gonapeptyl)
The reasons are as follows and why I haven't sorted out my jab until now, over the past 3 years when I had had it
I now have 3 lumps in my upper arms (2 on left, 1 on right), 3 different years of jabs, the lumps appeared with the injections and have remained painful to touch over the past 3 years, I am reluctant to add a 4th lump.
I cannot get a good answer from the local pharmacy as the Dr's surgery deals with flu jabs directly here.
Just looking general advice as pharmacy suggested I try and book an appt with GP to discuss what the options are who I know will try and pressure me to go ahead and ignore the lumps, one of them keeps telling me re my chronic pain that I think about it too much
So the question is, can flu vaccine be given IM in buttock? Yes or No as I can tolerate injections there a lot easier and it still goes around the system (albeit slower?)
If you are from a medical background could you say so please too,
You don't have to give job title just general idea of what you do would be great
(I do have an appt for 16th with GP so can ask then if stuck but picking the Mumsnet brains collectively"
Thanks in advance
