Is DS2 about to come down with chickenpox?

He's almost certainly been exposed (most of all on Thursday evening). He has been grumbly and a bit warm since Monday. Today he is home, warm, whingy, and just not right.

Is he about to come out in spots? When? The waiting is killing me.

Hmm sounds like it.

When Dd1 had them it was about 1 and a half weeks later that Dd2's spots came out.

NotQuiteCockney · 25/04/2007 12:30

A good friend's DS had it the week after easter. His sister is good mates with DS2, and they had a bath together on Thursday night. She was feverish all weekend, but as of Monday, had no spots.

He's driving me bloody well bonkers today, I've got to put some clothes on him and stick him in the pram and walk until he falls asleep. He's refused to try to sleep in his bed, or mine.

HI NQC!!

The incubation period is 7-14 days after contact. Dd had it recently and I've no idea who she got it from but she had a mighty fever and swollen glands for 24 hours before the first blister appeared. We were terrified, thinking she'd got meningitis as she woke in the night and called me. I found her sitting hunched in bed saying 'I can't move my neck'. Cue many calls to all available health advisors at 3am. Next morning she had one unmistakable blister.

Good luck!

Stock up on calamine cream, piriton and bicarb of soda for the bath?

imaginaryfriend · 25/04/2007 12:31

Are you calpolling him NQC?

NotQuiteCockney · 25/04/2007 12:56

He's been warm, off and on, from Monday morning. Maybe this is something else. I'd rather it was chicken pox, though, as I'd like to get that over with, and we're not flying anywhere soon.

Well, I guess time will tell. I think my friend's DD was incubating it on Thursday, and they had a bath together, so if she gets it, he certainly will. I hope.

He has had calpol, and some iboprofen, too.

I'm used to children being all wilty while ill, but he's quite bouncy really. He wants to go to the co-op. He wants to go on the DLR. He is better. He's freezing. Etc etc.

incubabtion can be up to 3 weeks. they are most infectious the day before spots appear and i don't think they are infectious in the incubation period generallly so you may be ok if your DSs friend has no spots?

my dd had 1st spots 15th and my ds had his 16 days later

HTH

I want DS2 to have chickenpox! It's enough already.

I'm sure it'll happen soon, one way or another.

It would be nice if he was better tomorrow, I'd be able to leave him at the co-op and have a morning to himself.

popmum · 25/04/2007 13:21

bring him round for a kiss off my ds then!!!

NotQuiteCockney · 25/04/2007 20:26

He might be on the mend. He had a sleep in the pram. He didn't really eat tea, but he didn't seem to be alarmingly warm any more. I guess we'll get spots tomorrow or not at all.

OP posts:
imaginaryfriend · 25/04/2007 20:55

Gosh you really are desperate for him to get it...

I was kind of the same until dd was so ill with it and I wished it'd never happened! I'm glad now though that it 's over with.

NotQuiteCockney · 25/04/2007 21:03

Well, I don't want him to get it when we're about to go away on holiday anywhere. I'd rather he got it when the co-op was closed, so I didn't have to keep him out, but at least the exclusion policy is very reasonable.

You have my sympathy NQC, my DTs are in the same situation, exposed at nursery last week and this, DT2 def under the weather, asking for naps when she normally doesn't bother, I'm now not at work til mon so I reckon that instead of 4 fun filled days with them I'll be nursing grizzly bears instead - shall we compare spots in the morning ?

NotQuiteCockney · 25/04/2007 21:05

How old are your DTs? I hope they at least get them at the same time, so you don't have twice as long sitting on the sofa with them.

I am not sure DS2 is about to get it. DS1 got it at about 22 months, and it was really easy. So I want DS2 to get it younger rather than older. (He's 2.5 now.)

How's the knitting going, NQC?

NotQuiteCockney · 25/04/2007 21:06

All right - I am working on a Maude project, as am hosting sewing up on the coming Saturday (come along! children welcome!)

OP posts:
imaginaryfriend · 25/04/2007 21:07

What's sewing up?

What are you doing for your Maude project?

NotQuiteCockney · 25/04/2007 21:07

We're all making squares, and they've been collected up and will be sewed into a blanket. It's a potluck with sewing and children.

OP posts:
imaginaryfriend · 25/04/2007 21:12

Oh yes, I've heard about that. Where will you be sewing up?

NotQuiteCockney · 25/04/2007 21:14

My house, East London. Near a tube station. Tempted?

OP posts:
dingdongjustforyoufg · 25/04/2007 21:22

they're 3.4, DT1 showing no signs of illness so either it will be strung out or only one will get it...

NotQuiteCockney · 25/04/2007 21:23

Well, you do want them to get it, and the younger the better, imo. (As long as they're over one.)

OP posts:
dingdongjustforyoufg · 25/04/2007 21:27

yes I do want them to get it really, the sooner the better and both at the same time would be handy

imaginaryfriend · 25/04/2007 21:45

I am tempted actually. What kind of time?

NotQuiteCockney · 25/04/2007 21:59

10am. Do you have my email address?

NotQuiteCockney · 25/04/2007 22:00

You can bring your DD - there will be other midgets running about.
