Bifocal contact lenses

Just wondered how easy they are to get used to. For the past thirty years or so I've worn mostly the ordinary Acuvue but had a test yesterday. I felt the current lenses weren't quite as good as they had been and the optician said the cataract has increased and she's changed the prescription to reflect this. I asked her whether I might suit bifocals as at the moment I have a pair of readers stuck on top of my head for computer work/shopping etc.
She said she wasn't too enthusiastic about the two weekly ones (forgot to ask why) but she felt the monthly ones might suit. She started me off with the one day disposable yesterday and has ordered a monthly pair as a trial. It felt different first of all but by the end of the day my vision did appear quite good and it was fantastic not to have to use the readers.

I'm waiting for the second pair which hopefully will be in next week. I'll wear them for three weeks then she'll see me to check how I am getting on. If they work I'll order a supply of the monthlies. I have astigmatism and am long sighted but think that might be changing with the cataract (not at the stage to consider removal yet).

Any tips you can pass on how long it took you re getting used to them. It would be really helpful.

I am interested in this too. I am short and long sighted and asked about bifocal contact lenses but the optician said they are difficult to get used to unless you have worn bifocal glasses first - I'm resisting these as I feel my eyes will deteriorate rapidly once I move to them. But may not be able to put it off too much longer.

I wear varifocal specs, have astigmatism and very short sighted in 1 eye. I tried a number of different makes of varifocal contact lenses, all with limited success. Mainly due to the astigmatism.
I'm a teacher, and ended up having to take one lens out at school to enable me to mark books!

I got used to them just fine. Did not have glasses first. I’ve had to sacrifice a bit of distance clarity in order to gain reading ability. My optician said that is the compromise most have to make.

I’d recommend them.

I've worn them for quite a few years. I love them. I have the monthlies and it's great to be able to read and watch tv.
The only problem I have is driving in the dark. My optician said something about spacial awareness so I wear glasses if o know I'm going to be driving in the dark

Forgot to say I also have varifocal specs which I only wear when I take my lenses out at night. I'll report back when (if) I manage the trial in case any one else would be interested. Thanks for the replies.

I’ve tried these (weighted lenses) and also different lenses in each eye (one for distance, one for reading).

Found that my brain adjusted straight away but there was a vision compromise with both - the distance vision wasn’t quite clear enough and the reading was just a bit too fuzzy.

Went back to varifocals - sling ‘em on in the morning, check ‘em off at night, job done.
