Water intake

Ok I'm going to ask something which some may perceive to be a stupid question but something I have wondered about for while.

When they say you should drink a certain amount of water a day, does this include any fizzy pop, tea etc you have or not? Obviously I know plain water is better than the above.

I have decided to cut out all squash, pop etc and try and drink just plain water but I do still drink tea and coffee.

Tea and coffee are both hydrating. Cutting out squash and pop is good for you because of the sugar and calories that are being eliminated, but they are hydrating as well.

The whole idea that you have to drink some huge amount of water a day is a bit of a old wives tale. Most foods contain water in addition to the water based beverages you consume. Drink when you're thirsty or are in the mood for a nice cup of tea or coffee.

Thank you for replying. It seems like such a silly question but they are always the ones you're too afraid to ask and then you never really know.

I am doing it for the benefits of cutting out sugar (I don't put this in my tea or coffee) but also to try and combat my ski problems as I am close to 30 and have never had 'normal' skin. Such a small thing can control your life for the last 16 years.

It's not a silly question. The "you must drink 8 glasses a day of water" myth is something that has been floating around in the press for decades without any scientific support. You do need to stay well hydrated, but for most people under most conditions it's not that great a challenge.

Is it adult acne or some other skin condition you are trying to mitigate?

Jakethekid · 04/01/2018 15:20

It's acne that iv had roughly since I was around 13. I have taken the dianette pill in the past but it didn't fully get rid of it and I don't want to go back to using the pill.

It's not as bad as it used to be. But I always have atleast one spot on my face and they tend to be boil like rather than white heads (sorry so much graphic detail). I get quite an oily t zone and I'd read that drinking more water is good for cleaning the skin from the outside out. I have tried most things in the last 16 years. Many people will not understand how something so small can affect your life and confidence so much.

Is accutane available in the UK?

Can you ask your GP or dermatologist to prescribe it?

I had acne as a teenager and I understand how you feel.

Jakethekid · 04/01/2018 19:10

Thank you for your kind advice. I think I will visit my gp and ask about my skin. Hopefully 2018 will be the year I finally get it sorted. Just seems so embaressing but I'd rather be embaressed for 5 minutes with a gp than every day I leave the house. Thanks a lot 😊

I’m 47 and still get hormonal outbreaks on my chin every month. They used to be much bigger & boil like but I started using Silver Serum from the Skinshop & it really keeps them at bay. I still get spots but they never get huge like they did before. Have a look at the reviews online as lots of people say the same.

Total myth, as described by a consultant diring a hospital in-stay a few years ago. One of the myths that has accompanied the exponential boom in bottled water.

People just drag along behind it all like sheep, whilst the likes of Nestle and Coca Cola get richer and the world doesn’t know what to do with its pile of used plastic.

Low carb. Some people find it helps
