Would you bother going to your doctor with these?

I am looking for some advice if I can.
I'm not here looking for a diagnoses, just opinions really. I am a dark haired fair skinned girl with lots of freckles and moles. However, I have noticed a couple recently that look a bit different to all the others.

I don't want to waste an appointment at my doctors if these are considered normal. Purely because I've been there a lot recently and don't wish to seem like some raving hypercondriac.

The first one is a small mole that's light with a dark ring border, the second is slightly larger but looks really dark compared to other, and is quite 'dry' to touch (pictures are not great on all honesty)

There's so much conflicting info on the internet that I have no idea what is considered normal when it comes to a mole. As I said, I'm not after a diagnoses, just do you think it's worth them being checked out?

Thank you 😊

I would, if only to put your mind at rest. You won't be wasting the doctors time Smile

Sallystyle · 04/01/2018 12:48

I would, but mostly for the second one. The first one wouldn't worry me much but the second one would.

Do you have any mole checking clinics in your area? I believe that Boots in my area runs them. It does cost but that might be an option?

You wouldn't be waisting the doctors time though. It is always best to get them checked out as if it is anything nasty early diagnosis is very important.

Some moles can look a bit nasty and be absolutely fine of course, but you would be silly not to get it checked out.

Thank you for the advice, both :)

I didn't even realise there were mole checking clinics! I have just checked and it starts at £35, this is is great and will book an appointment with Boots.

Definitely go to GP. They will likely refer to a dermatologist who will check all miles. I did this recently and was all fine.

I'm probably a little paranoid now, but this is a brand new mole that only appeared in the last month or so. This is up by my shoulder. Only very small but a few jagged edges. I think because I have 3 that I'm not sure of I will contact my GP. Boots charge 35 for the first plus an additional 15 per mole.
Thank you 😊

How old are you, Tripple?

Bubblegum89 · 04/01/2018 20:10

For that second mole, yes. I had a similar mole on my back a few years ago and uhmmd and ahhhd about seeing a doctor. I went in the end and had to have it removed. They tested it and discovered it was precancerous so I had the rest of it removed (at the root) Had I not had it checked, things could be much worse than just having a big scar! Any mole that is mishapen, dark or has changed colour, is new or has redness should be checked. It could be nothing but a GP won’t mind you being cautious. They take skin cancer VERY seriously (my dermatologist once told me off for not having sunscreen on even though I was wearing a jacket lol) and they would rather you got your moles checked out rather than leaving them to potentially turn into something life threatening

I'm 24, used sunbeds for about 2 months around 3 years ago. Always cautious and generous with suncream but I burn so easily.

bubblegum thank you, I will most certainly get it checked. My GP was closed this afternoon so will call first thing. I'm so glad you got sorted. It's something I've never given a second thought to in all honesty, it's probably nothing but I'll have them checked for sure 😊 x

You’re welcome :) it’s just always better to be safe than sorry. I’m very mole-y and I had all of my moles checked and I go back to a dermatologist every 6 months so he can keep an eye on them. It’s only been that one that’s been trouble (so far!) and even though I’ve not noticed any other odd ones in 3 years, I still insist on having regular check ups even if it seems silly to when there’s no obvious problem and my dermatologist doesn’t mind at all. Good luck, hopefully they’ll say they’re all perfectly fine :) x
