Severe period pain

Any advice/tips on dealing with severe period pain? I used to have very painful periods but having my first daughter 5 years ago seemed to cure that until last month. Currently curled up in a ball in agony.?Is it worth a trip to the GP?

What do you use painkiller wise as standard? Naproxen is really good for it but not everyone can take it. I have HORRIFIC periods, but I can't take naproxen sadly. I have to use a heating pad with a lot of groaning and wishing I didn't have me uterus anymore.

Poor you. Period pain is called “uterine angina” for a reason. It is missable. Go and see your GP - there may be underlying reason ( from a GP who ignored her own endometriosis symptoms for far too long😟)

Do you take vitamin supplements? I had exactly the same thing untill I started taking pregnancy vitamins again. It stopped completely. Still get them but they are really annoying rather than unbearable.

Yes it is and you need a referral to a gynaecologist as well.

Endometriosis may well be the root cause of your ongoing period pain here.

Definitely go to the GP and hopefully they’ll refer you for a pelvic ultrasound to rule out things like ovarian cysts and fibroids (which are easily treatable if found) and also a referral to a gyno who can maybe test you for endometriosis.
If it just painful periods and nothing else, then you have my full sympathies as I also really suffer but they haven’t found anything wrong. I find a hot water bottle on my pelvic area helps and ibuprofen every 4 hours. I had an ex once who used to say that women milked it when having periods and it can’t be as painful as we all make out. I’d love to see a man have to deal with this level of pain every single month

I once had a period that hurt more than labour! I passed out repeatedly, was at my mums at the time. She put me in the car to take me to take docs and I had a weird seizure thing. The doctor came out and apparently it was my body trying to get horizontal as I fainted and was strapped into the seat. Never known pain like it. Never had it as bad again either. Sucks being female sometimes
