Please tell me it's a perimenopause symptom...

I know what it might be; but I'm looking for anyone who's had the same symptoms and it's been a hormonal imbalance / perimenopause.

I'm 43 and had one sore breast for a couple of months now. It ranges from can't sleep pain (only a couple of nights), to a nagging ache, feels heavy / swollen (although it's not, just feels like it should be), sometimes feels burning in a specific area and today feels like I've pulled a muscle.

It disappears completely when I have a period, but is back for the other 3 weeks of the month in varying degrees of discomfort.

Dr Google tells me it could be perimenopause, and to try Evening Primrose oil, but it seems more likely when both breasts feel this way, rather than only one.

Has anyone else felt this way?

I'll obviously need to see my GP as it's lasted too long to ignore now, but looking for some positive messages that it's nothing to worry about and just a sign of my age!

There's a menopause thread on here which will help you. I have had pain in one breast generally leading up to my period. I've had checks and always been nothing and I think mine is hormonal. I'm 42 but have been like this for 3 years. You should get it checked out though as it's always better to be safe than sorry.

Yes I’ve had this a few years ago, I was 40. One side only, deep burning came and went, sometimes sore nipple, sometimes shooting pains. It went eventually though I’m not perimenopausal yet. Just one of those things apparently. Breast clinic are very good at giving you an MOT so hang in there.

Yes, I’ve had this last year. I’m 46. Eventually went to GP who put it under the peri menopause umbrella. It did go after about eight months. Been replaced with other peri symptoms now though like migraine. Oh joy Smile

Thanks so much for replying, I feel much more optimistic now! Sore nipple is sometimes unbearable (when my DS tries to cuddle at that side - he's just at the right height and it's toe-curling)

I've been drinking less caffeine in the hope it eases off.

Lemons - is the breast clinic something the GP would refer to, or can an appointment be booked there direct?

I’m 42 and had this for a couple of months last year. My GP couldn’t find anything untoward and advised taking ibuprofen, though I didn’t because I’m not supposed to take it due to asthma. The pain suddenly disappeared one day and hasn’t returned.

Thanks again everyone for taking the time to reply. Definitely feeling less concerned - looking forward to the day this disappears!

GP referral only but breast screening is generally well funded and a 2 week wait so not too long in limbo. Glad you’re feeling better about it, I panicked too (mostly cos it was only one side) but it settled down. Def see the GP though as they are generally pretty good at breast issues as they see a lot of them.

Sounds like something I had when I was going through mine. Also turned out that I had a cyst - perfectly harmless just a bit annoying.
