Magnesium. Either take a supplement at bedtime, or rub on the oil: betteryou.com/magnesium-oil-original-spray

Also it can be a symptom of low ferritin (iron).

I was just coming in to recommend magnesium oil spray. Also, exercise helps, I find (running or walking during the day means I usually don’t get RL). And if your legs are restless, try standing with your toes on the edge of a step, letting your heels drop down and give your calves a good stretch for at least a minute. Also I find it’s worse when I’m overtired.

thank you - i'll look out for the spray

Eating mussels eases mine, presumably because of the iron. Just got a weighted blanket for Christmas and I've noticed my sleep seems better, but that might be the alcohol.

SlowlyShrinking · 02/01/2018 00:08

You can get the spray from Amazon

Lightheartedindeed · 02/01/2018 00:10

lay on your side and sort of swing your legs back and forward ( passing in the middle) like a scissor motion as far as you can
Sorry if that’s not very clear but it always works for me

ny20005 · 02/01/2018 00:12

CBD is the only thing that's helped my dh

I find that cocodamol 30/500 works.
Also feet and Legs in a bucket of Icy cold water for about 15 minutes eases It long enough to get to sleep.

If you are willing to go the medication route gabapenton/lyrics can help.

Avoid antihistamine s, alcohol, most antidepressan ts, caffeine, nicotine and fizzy drinks.
Your ferritin serum iron should be up around 100. 20 is considered normal but not for RLS sufferers. Ferritin is the iron stored in your brain and needs a specific blood test. Your ordinary blood test is likely to read as normal it's the ferritin test that is needed

CBD might be a strain of weed. Weed helps a lot of sufferers.

ny20005 · 02/01/2018 00:27

CBD is oil found in Marijuana, Holland & Barrett sell it

My dh uses it in vape form but you can get drops or paste as well

LunaTheCat · 02/01/2018 00:30

I find if I lie on my back with pillow under my knees that really helps.
Codcomol will help because codeine but you can easily become codeine dependant - plus makes you constipated.

Venetia545 · 02/01/2018 02:06

Also, didn't know whether to add this one earlier but to Hell. If my legs are really bad when I'm trying to get to sleep I find an orgasm calms them down enough to sleep. I've researched it and apparently it's to do with the release of dopamine.

furlinedsheepskinjacket · 02/01/2018 02:15

haha venetia - got to be worth a try :)

Folic acid. 400mcg a day really helped me when pregnant. Never had it since.

Venetia545 · 02/01/2018 03:10

It can't hurt to try. Mine are so bad I ended up at the neurology department at the hospital. They offered me medication but some of the side effects were so bad I didn't take it. I get it all day every day though sometimes worse than others, and since then it's spread to my hips and lower spine and sometimes, thankfully rarely, I feel it in my arms. I've tried absolutely everything - the magnesium sprays, iron supplements, soap under the sheet, standing in cold water, the stretches, exercising, cutting out caffeine and god knows what else. The only thing that never fails for me is an orgasm. You have my sympathy, it's a nightmare syndrome to have.
