Do viral infections tend to manifest themselves with lower fevers than bacterial infections?

I have something going on - horrendously painful sore throat, totally bunged up, feel very very weak (as if I had a moderate to high fever), achy etc

BUT...I don't really have a fever. Around 38c (which is definitely higher than my normal base temperature but not otherwise significant).

No, it depends on the individual pathogen. Fever indicates a stronger immune system response.

no, the fever comes from your immune system, not the pathogen itself.

Oh great....so my immune system's shot Sad

Or does it mean that the virus/bacteria is just not that bad because my immune system apparently hasn't bothered to put up much of a fight? Confused

some people just dont get fevers, i tend to shiver but my temp doesnt rise! could just be your physiology.

I don't get fevers with infections. It's annoying as I went to hospital once feeling utterly dreadful and they insisted I didn't have an infection as no temp. I then went down hill and turns out I had a very nasty bacterial infection that had got in to my bloodstream.
