White mucus threads in urine

This is freaking me out a bit. I first noticed in the summer that occasionally I’d go to the loo and there’d be a white thread floating around in my urine. TMI but I fished one out and it’s mucus. I mentioned it to my gp when I was there for something else and she sent a urine sample to the lab - it came back negative for infection so she said it was nothing to worry about. Since then it’s happened occasionally, maybe something I notice every couple of weeks. But recently it’s been happening almost daily. I’ll have a wee and there will be a string of white mucus floating in it. I’m as sure as I can be that it’s not vaginal - I’ve tried wiping before I wee and it’ll still be there. So what is it? Google suggests a UTI (no other symptoms), STI (happily married and both dh and I tested negative when we got together so would be asking questions! Effectively this is a no though, no reason to be suspicious at all!) or kidney stones - no symptoms of those either. So what is it? I have had a couple of bouts of cystitis this year (triggered by sex) and had blood in my urine with those, but it cleared up very quickly with antibiotics. This doesn’t seem connected to that. I’m going to make a gp appointment but it’s hard not to worry in the meantime.

It is possibly your old bladder lining sloughing off. In other words, dead skin.

If you have had recent bladder infections it can be the by-product of an inflamed lining. I suspect this because when I had active IC ( inflamed bladder but no infection) for years and years, my wee always had bits in it- sometimes like flakes of skin, sometimes longer slimier pieces of skin.

It's prob nothing to worry about.

If you've run it past a GP and they've done tests but aren't concerned then I'd put it down to 'weird stuff bodies do'.

Last cystitis was September I think? Would it be shedding skin from that now?

Silver that was my thought - it’s just that it’s happening more frequently than before that worried me, and it’s been happening for some time. But these replies are reassuring Smile

Hi

Was just to say I’ve noticed this for 20 plus years on and off and I spoke to the doctor about it a number of years ago and she said it’s normal.

Ofcourse if you don’t feel reassured then go back and speak to your gp or take a sample of it in and hopefully this will help.

Nothing worse than worrying about something and your mind making up other bits of the story for you. I’ve been there.

Take care x

Are you absolutely sure they aren't threadworms from your anus? They can work their way to the front pretty easily.

toomuchhappyland · 31/12/2017 08:49

Nick, not worms for sure - I’ve fished one out and it’s stretchy mucus.

Le1980, thank you x

Could it be time of ovulation? If it's not frequent but at certain times. Could be possible..... I'm not expert by the way just thinking Smile

I don’t think so cinders as it’s random in the month and now happening more frequently...I did wonder that but there’s no pattern that I can see.

I get these and apparently mine is from radiation treatment I had in that area. I also get a lot of cystitis.
