Anyone use Ortho K Lenses

Ok so this is following on from my Laser Eye thread on which I received some good advice and lots of positive stories.
However I am still loathe to go down that route.
I have now stumbled across Contacts you can sleep in which change the shape of your cornea overnight to give you perfect vision for the day!(ortho k)
I love this idea and really hope I would be suitable so...
Anyone use these and if so what is your prescription?(mine is -5plus) Do you have astigmatism?(mine is over 1.50 in one eye)
I have seen mixed reports, some saying that anything over -5 can;t be treated, then some saying it can up to -8
Similar with astigmatism(up to 1.75)

I remember asking my optician about it, because it seemed like a brilliant solution to me. But he/she was very dismissive of it. I never quite got to the bottom of why - or whether or not it was just sour grapes because it was being offered by another business to theirs!

I'd be really interested to know what others think. If I could restore my sight without having to have an op I'd be over the moon.

D's used them for about 2 years....would look like a mole going to bed but they worked well and he could see without glasses
On going costs are high and as he is a poor student he stopped and now just uses daily contacts

I used to fit them, I don't in my current clinic as we have a different patient demographic. They work pretty well, if you're suitable.

They really don't work that well above -4.50DS, but can work up to -1.50DC (astigmatism), but it depends on which part of the eye you are astigmatic. Do you have a spectacle prescription and I can advise you if you have the "right" sort of astigmatism.

I wear them and have done for the last 3 or 4 years. I love them - I'm not as short sighted as you though (think I was around -2 when I got them fitted with some astigmatism but can't remember what that was).

If they are suitable for you then I would highly recommend them - they've been brilliant for me. I was suffering with my normal lenses feeling very dry when I was at work and was either swapping new pairs in (or using drops) during the day or wearing my glasses a lot.

You put the lenses in at bedtime and then when you take them out in the morning you have crystal clear vision that lasts all day. The longer you have them for the longer it takes for the vision to reset so now if I really need to (has happened about twice) I can skip a night and still be ok the next day as well.

The actual lenses aren't the most comfy things but I had originally worn GP lenses years ago so found them ok, I'm currently trialling new coatings which are a lot more comfortable. The comfort isn't really an issue though as you're basically asleep when you have them in.

For me they've been brilliant, very little hassle and it's marvellous not needing to faff about with lenses, glasses etc in the day. The only thing to be aware of is they can't correct short sight and the long sightedness that you get as you age - I need reading glasses now but they go over my 'corrected' prescription and work just fine.

Thank you.
I actually went today for a consultation and it turns out my prescription is worse than I (or indeed my optician thought)
They said they COULD do it but it wouldn't work very well for one eye so advised against it.
I am now trialing some soft lenses and hoping these will stop the discomfort.
Cannot believe I have been to two opticians now who got my prescription so wrong!
I hope this will finally be an end to it all...I paid for new glasses last time and now need to change them again!
