I don't expect to see anyone to stop and chat too, I'm desperately low on stuff, and our s/market is veyr quiet at the mo beccause they're rebuilding and everyone has fled to other stores...and I'd be out in 20 minutes... but - is it a risk to pg. women etcc., him just wheeling past them in the pram?

PS He's on great form, so I'm not so worried aobut how he'd feel

I'd say no, just in case. It's not very fair on those who are pregnant or have immunity problems. You have to think how you would feel if someone had knowingly maybe put you/your baby at risk.

Jackaroo · 24/04/2007 09:33

Mm, yes, that's what I thought.. wouldn't even have considered it if there was anyone to ask etc... anyway, I guess I was hoping everyone would say, don't be silly, it's fine. That's that then! DS won't mind eating fruit and toast all day, and I'll have to get pizza

YES I did, and only the other day MummytoSteven told me here on MN that a health worker told her that was fine.

Jackaroo · 24/04/2007 09:36

uh-oh...

I'm back where I started!!

Sorry!

edam · 24/04/2007 09:39

Think chickenpox is still infectious until all the pustules have scabbed over, about five to six days, sorry. I couldn't do it personally, because I'd feel too guilty about pregnant women and people with low immunity like Misdee's Peter. When ds had c/pox recently we got VERY bored of going to the park when everyone else was at school. So I sympathise! Got dh to do food shopping on his way home from work.

helbel3 · 24/04/2007 09:51

I would also take him, they are more contagious 10 days before the spots come out anyway. HV told me this.

Online supermarket order?

Jackaroo · 24/04/2007 10:02

Yeah, i should have done that online order on Saturday I planned to do before DS got sick and clingy .... nevermind. We'll survive. You're right though, the thought of going to teh store has alreayd taken on oasis-in-the-desert type image because of cabin fever!

I have a friend who got CP @ 8wk pg. and she just has to sit it out and wait to see what happens next :-( Hence my own hesitation.

Cheers for your input

Please don't take him, he could pass it on to someone who is immunosuppressed like my ds who had a liver transplant last year. If he gets chickenpox it would be very serious and would lead to at least 2 weeks in hospital on IV drugs. I have to live life assuming that people take precautions when they know they have something contagious, otherwise we would never go out at all - what sort of life would that be for a 2 year old! Apparently internet food shopping is easy once you've set it up, probably less stressful too!

Seona1973 · 24/04/2007 21:28

I think the hv was talking rubbish too - they are contagious 2 or 3 days before the spots appear and up until they all scab over (normally about 5-7 days after the first spots appear)

My dd (3) had it just over 2 weeks ago and we were isolated from everyone except my mum as she has had it before. My ds (6 months) has just started coming out in spots so I'll have to go back into isolation for another week or so, although I do have to take dd to and from nursery the rest of the week - do you think that will be ok? I literally see her in the door, get her coat hung up or put on and leave again

rosealbie · 24/04/2007 21:32

Agree with SquillosMum, my dd is also imunocompromised and we have had to try and avoid chicken pox as it can be very serious.

pickledpear · 24/04/2007 21:36

i had dh and dd with it dh was delirious(sp) really ill that was about 7yrs ago cant wait till someone in my area gets it so my ds can come and play love him to get it while small dd9 has few spots everytime someone in class goes down with she had sympathy spots 5 times hospital are baffled

DumbledoresGirl · 25/04/2007 09:22

I don't suppose the health worker (I didn't say HV - you would have to ask MummytoSteven who it was exactly) was saying that the child was no longer infectious, just that, with your child in a supermarket trolley, they are unlikely to pass it on to anyone.

Anyway, this is not my argument so I am bowing out.
