Tips for calming an angry bladder please

Ow, ow, ow

I’m on antibiotics ( trimethoprim) and this is day 3. It doesn’t sting when I go but hurts all the time. And my bladder feels full when it isn’t.

Usually antibiotics would have kicked in by now.

I’ve tried bicarbonate of soda in squash. It’s vile and hasn’t helped.

Any ideas?

Hot pack or hot water bottle for starters. Water or cranberry juice in between the vile bicarb. Sympathies, it's horrible: hope the ABs kick in soon.

Cranberry juice always works for me Smile
Feel better

No cranberry in the house. I always try to keep off fruit juices. But I am desperate so I could get some tomorrow.

Just wondering if any painkillers will help?

Lemon barley water, by the pint. Changes constitution of the urine... I speak from experience Confused

You could try ibuprofen to help inflammation however best advice I can give (and it's from experience but not for faint hearted Grin). Get a 2 litre bottle of pure water no juice/cordial sit legs crossed and power through the bottle without going to the bathroom. If you can - and this is hard - try doing this twice ie 4 litres before you go to the loo. You feel like you will burst but the pain is far less when you go. I used to count it in gulps of 10 - had recurrent kidney infections for over 5 years and ended up on long term low dose antibiotics- this worked for me when the infections were particularly bad - good luck Thanks

You really shouldn't hold it in like that, you could strain your bladder. By all means drink lots of water but you should go as frequently as possible to avoid your urine getting concentrated and to avoid overfilling it.

PollyPerky · 29/12/2017 21:34

Pleeeeease don't use cranberry!

It is so acidic and will give you more pain. It used to be used for prevention of infections but new research shows it doesn't work.

Ibuprofen is also acidic so stick to paracetamol. (It can also cause kidney damage so avoid.)

Personally I've always found 1 teaspoon of cream of tartar dissolved in warm water with a squeeze of lemon very helpful for bladder issues.

Crispbutty · 30/12/2017 01:48

Sit in a warm bath. It really helps.

No citrus drinks at all! Ouch
Plenty of water.

Never tried it myself but you can get something called D-Mannose which is a supplement that is meant to be great for treating/preventing UTI's

sillysausage16 · 06/01/2018 00:57

D-mannose is great
